Not long had a 300zx TT UK (91') & was looking under the bonnet and saw a red sticker saying "Warning this car contains asbestos, may be harmful to breathe in" or something along them lines.

Obviously I know what asbestos is, but does anyone know where its used in the car and if i can get it replaced with something else?

Cheers,

Dan.

I think that the sticker you mention refers to the heat shield blanket which is usually stuck on the underside of the bonnet. Many members have removed this (including me) with no ill effects. However, if you do this, try to take it off in one piece rather than shredding it. It's held on with plastic poppers..

Asbestos is commonly found in brake shoes and pads about 15 years ago. Brakes now a days dont have it but the Nissan probably did. The original brake pads would ahve been changed by now

wear a mask if you remove the underside blanket u might laugh but at least its peace of mind,i fell through a asbestos roof when i was a teenager :xxx: and its nasty s**t think im alright now though

some clutches have it too

Don't suppose you know of anyone that does a replacement ?

I'd prefer to remove it, just on the off-chance, especially with it being so near the air vents.

Not aware of one mate! TBH have not noticed any difference in noise and have a small decrease in engine temp. Can't be bad

Win,win huh ? :)

Has the extra heat has affected the bonnet paintwork though ?

Cheers Steve !

never knew it was asbestos !! I removed my underbonnet blanket. Reckon it helps cool the engine bay as the bonnet absorbs heat and this dissipates to the air/rain. No paint harm yet.

Cheers peeps...i will get that seen to then! Once I have purchased a full radiation suit!

If you're worried about the asbestos, wet it with a

fine water spray before removing it (& if it breaks), it's the

dust it produces that messes you up.

Face mask & gloves are advisable too!

you have to dispose of it in a red skip as well,

you leave yourself open to prosecution if you don't and you will put other peoples lives at rish

I put mine in the bin. I was ignorant.

One problem with removing the bonnet insulation - you might get condensation forming on the underside of the bonnet when cooling/cold... drip drip drip straight on yer coilpack connectors!

That's quite handy, a guy down the road has a red skip in his garden :D ;)
