What a ripoff - most of the local garages charge £20 - However they're all booked up and I need mine done urgently.

Garage has stung me for £35 with a 7 day free retest.

That hurts

the actuall official price is something like £42.

come live in London, they charge £40-45. I got one on the cheap last week (through a friend) and it was £35.

Yeah, I thought the official price was something like £41, so wouldn't say you've been stung for £35. Paid £30 for my Golf last week and that was thru a mate.

£40.75 is the current price. IMO all garages should charge this price.

Why, because yours does? :D

Errrrr OK .. why?

no, because it has been suggested that cut price MOT's encourages poor test procedures. (not checking thoroughly, failing items to gain work etc) ;)

I think it really comes down to ethics

Some garages have them .. some don't .. cost is immaterial

I normally use Hi-Q in Slough- if you go on their website you can print off a £10 discount voucher. I dont like them too much, but if its cheap and you get a pass, then why not.

Not sure if they are National

have to disagree. a garage costs money to run. mechanics wages, cost of building, tools, equipment etc.

they have to make the money from somewhere! cost is very important.

I know a garage that charges £50 but the test standard is pathetic, but a ticket is a ticket :D :D

That didn't come out right. I meant that if a garage can afford to do a correct MOT for a lower price then that is great. I don't see why I should pay £45 notes for a MOT, aren't we allowed healthy competition anymore either?

I think we get screwed enough in this fooked up country and I am getting pissed off with it.

I don't give a toss where garages get their money from as long as it isn't ripping of the motorist at every turn.

as long as you are getting value for money then fine. problem is an MOT will take upto 1 hour on average (if done properly), it has been suggested (;)) that some MOT stations that charge like £20 might try to rush the test to get more tests per hour, or worse still possibly fail items that dont warrent failing just to gain the additional work.

for us MOTs are a loss as soon as they come in. at £75ph weve lost £35 straight away, thats without VOSA admin costs.

AAARRRGGGHHH, what has really pi**ed me off now is that this numpty I paid £35 too has only taken it to my local garage I normally use (£20 for a mot) who told me they were too busy.

So I've drove halfway across sheffield, paid nearly twice the price - my car has been drove back to where I live - mot'd - then back to the other sifde of sheffield, Ive picked it back up, droive back to where I live and paid an extra £15.
