I lost the Zed after work tonight at a roundabout  . I had only just picked it up from the garage, after a week for MOT and some other work, as well :( .

I tried putting more gas on to drift out of the spin but there was no chance. The car spun 180 degrees and hit the inside curb. It sounded really bad  . Thankfully, it was driveable at low speeds- though a little wobbly :( .

I've never driven so slow before in the zed... .

On closer inspection, there is buckling to the rear nearside lower arm. I want to replace this but need to know if the Jap lower arm is the same as the UK. Does anyone know? Duffman??? :)

Thanks in advance

Bad shite Van. Hope you are ok and get the beast sorted.

Van, you plonker, ive got a set of 4 wheels in the garage if youve damaged yours let me know.

Hi lads

Crap happens. Thought I had killed the Zed initially. I'm fine but my pride is a little bruised.

Berkley, I'm alloyed up to the gills thanks.

Pete

I've got my fingers crossed mate.

Sorry to hear that Van,but to answer you question yes they are the same, the lower arm is always the first thing to go when the rear wheel takes a knock.

Mac

Thanks for the info but what's usually the second thing to go? So I can check to see if anything else needs replacing.

Hi Van,

You need to check all the lower and upper arms, also the hicas arms too - does the wheel still sit centrally in the wheel arch? Seen one case of a drive shaft bending but by all accounts the guy was doing quite a speed sideways to do that...

And just to confirm, yes they are the same for uk and imports :)

I did almost exactly the same as you...

...got away with pretty much nowt but looking at the underside I can see a mark that indicates I missed the intercooler by about an inch - so check your ICs aren't leaking or owt.

Duffman

All seems to be fine and the wheel does seem to sit centrally. Just the lower arm seems to be buckled- I was going quite slow thankfully.

I've learnt my lesson...or rather, I need more practice in drifting/corrective steering- now to look for a large empty carpark for when it rains!!! When the car is fixed ofcourse.

Cheers

Hi Van,

I did something similar a couple of years ago, lower wishbone was bent and the corresponding HICAS/track rod arm end. Replaced parts courtesy of AndyZ.

Haven't had anything similar happen since the change from Auto to Manual though (touchwood).

Pheeeeew. Got the replacement lower arm installed and all is well. 4 wheel tracking will need to be done soon. No other damage can be seen so...fingers crossed.

I must admit that the nut locking pin on the ball joint took 3/4 hours to remove. It had rusted and the ends outside the hole had to be "picked" off.

Thanks folks.

Yep. It was the roundabout at Mickleover Court Hotel. Be care on this on when it's wet.
