what tubs are you fitting?? anything other than stock then i would deffo pull the engine. even mildly uprated tubs can require careful installation & checks to make sure wastegate linkages etc dont foul on anything

more than likely

smithys ones

but not 100% yet

is engine out a major job?

steve

Depends on what facilities you have. I removed the engine, stripped off the heads, fitted a pair of heads and a pair of turbos outside my house, up the drive with no garage !!! And I live in Scotland so it was raining most of the time

A weekend to take it out and fit the new turbos, then the next wekend to fit it, plumb and wire it shouldnt be too far out. I took some pics of the turbos to help with re-assembly which proved a mega bonus. ;)

Alan.......

anyone else had any experience of turbo fitting

thanks

steve

Only with Option Motorsport!!!! Nightmare!!!

Apparently, its a b1tch of a job, but rest assured, next time anything engine wise goes wrong with mine, I am doing it!!

Good luck Steve, keep us posted with how u get on!

Engine out!!

It is a difficult job, and you will have trouble getting the correct torque settings!

Engine out for sure. I've done this twice now, and each time I wondered at how on earth the turbos, esp one side in particular, could be changed from underneath.

Simon.

ive had mine done at a main dealer with the engine in but with the hassle i had afterwards its better to do it with the engine out,

loose bolts and and gaskets, boost leaks ect!!

engine out!!! you can get the lump out in 7hours or so if ya know what ya doing and take your time :)

change the tubs, engine back in in 6-7 hours, sorted :D

plus while the lump is out you can check all the hoses properly, connectors, change any sensors that look suspect, oil filter is easier to change, etc etc

i would HATE to try and change tubs with it on the car, oil feeds off/on for a start!! UGH!!!

7 Hours!

NO seriously take your time, use bits of masking tape to label connectors and hoses, loads of clear plassy bags, pieces of carboard to put bolts in the order they came out in, take digital pictures of how things assembled together!

Most importantly of all, don't skimp on parts, if you can replace items do so, remove the aiv's, and prvr system, blank off the egr system, bypass the throttle bodies!

  Dont want to take mine out   there must be people out ther that have left engine in.

If not after my hols i we be offline for months changing mine :(

cheers

Dave

PS Steve if you are doing this jod with engine IN please keep me informned how you are getting on.

Believe you and me it will be easier/quicker/cheaper in the long run, to take the engine out!

Even though i have a 2 post ramp + all workshop facilities to hand!

"ITS NOT A RACE, ITS AN ENGINE SWAP!!"

Hehe, 2nd what this guy says though, make sure you label EVERYTHING!! especially the first time you do it, subsequent times (3rd time here, actually doing it right now) gets a bit easier :D

definately engine out,it will take you hours of swearing just to undo the r/h turbo then to find out you cant actually get it out of the engine bay!! Plus with the engine pulled you get to inspect/replace all them 'orrible little hoses that love to leak so saving hours of fun trying to replace them in situ!! PS I would recomend Scott on 01702 511100 (Southend on Sea. Essex)
