Towbar

Anyone got a towbar fitted? Is there a commercially made product available?

Not enough room in the boot to take the garden rubbish to the tip.

Man your having a laugh. its supposed to be a sports car not a utility vehicle?

My brother has a MKIII Supra 3.0 Turbo with a towbar on it (the previous owner fitted it)

Last year a young lad in a Nova was following him round Edinburgh and trying to keep up. My brother stopped at a roundabout and the Nova skidded into the back of him.

Slight paint damage to the Supra but a massive hole in the front end of the Nova! LOL

They exchanged insurance details and later that evening the lads father called to ask what the hell my brother had a towbar for. Asked what he towed with it - none of your business said my bro! The guy said they should be banned and if he hadn't had it the Nova would be OK. Excuse me but your son smashed into the back of me, my car is damaged and i'm lucky not to have whiplash said my Bro... What an arse!

His dad should have known that all Nova drivers are dick heads anyway... biggrin.gif

I was at a Nissan dealer a few weeks ago and was browsing through a folder with accesoires for several Nissans and to my surprise they had a towbar for the Z32 !

I'm not sure if it's still available though, since the brochure was from 1998.

OK. I get the drift. No sense of humour, some people!

Im really slow but is it me without the sense of humor or you without a sence of style lol

Soon after I bought my Z I was travelling up the M11 and passed a grey 300 and trailer with 2 trials bikes on it, didn't look too stupid.

Seems like a good idea to me, why not design a removable version so it's taken off when not needed - lets face it if you buy a packet of mints the 300's full biggrin.gif

Tim

A retractible version and while we are at it two real rear seats anbd raised suspension and dice on the rearview mirror and (oh we have a utility vehicle)lol

Warren,

Always the wit, you and Timmy should tread the boards. Morcambe and Wise eat yer hearts out!

I fully agree that a towbar adds nothing aesthetically but it would be a very usefull addition sometimes, you might have been able to collect all the bits for your exhaust system if you'd had one biggrin.gif

I have considered fitting a towbar to mine as I have 2 bikes and a Caterham 7 that I want to track next year.

I saw a removable one at a Hyundai Dealer and once removed you only see the power socket. Neat.

If you read your ZX manual you will see that the Australian ZX had a towbar

If you go to http://www.tow-bars.co.uk a company called Wattling Engineers makes a towbar for the 300ZX (removable hitch).

Unfortunately their towbars aren't e marked (or is that ce.. I forget) so can't legally be used.. Hmmm.. Interesting towbar then smile.gif

hmmm, I think I'm going to enter Trax2002 next year with a caravan behind my Z biggrin.gif

That'll slow down those Supra's

Hmmmmmmm.....

Can of worms me thinks

Tim

I think I'll stick to towing stuff with the Renault then biggrin.gif (usually car trailers loaded up with cars, before anyone accuses me of being a caravanner biggrin.gif)

My brother's in law have a towbar company.

They use WITTER or can do chewaper ones if required. The company is called THE TOWBARMAN

They are mobile and have a center in Rushed Northants or Fanborough Hants.

01933 413912.

A detachable would be best but costly.

A late post, but just returned from hols. The following info may help?

I bought a "new" unfitted 300ZX towbar from a previous owner. It is a genuine Nissan part (KE 500 - 40P10) made by Brink (Holland), and has 'a detachable ball'. I believe Brink were absorbed by a major US towbar company a few years ago.

Like the previous owner, I have not fitted it yet, but hope to to tow a motorbike occasionally. A problem/project is that it is made for the 2+2, and I have a 2 seater.

I could try and scan in the 'exploded view', if anybody is interested. You would not believe the number of pieces. The combined weight of the thing should help stop the rear wheels spinning!

Geoff

I suppose thats the only way to slow a z down , by having a caravan pushing it.

At least it gives you somewhere to put some light high up on, so u can see where u r going!!!

Hi,

I think a removeable tow bar is a great idea...I know of a couple of people at Billing who had them on older Zeds, in order to tow a small trailer with the tent etc on.

I thought about this on holiday this year...I could get the wife and baby in the car, and still be able to carry some luggage on a small aerodynamic trailer to my destination...and then remove it for the rest of the holiday!

The other half is starting to come round to my way of thinking..Would be better than driving the old family saloon

And don't forget for some people the Z is their only car.

Whats the world comming toooooo..

It will be roof racks, bull bars and caravans next.....

Regardz

That was a hell of an accident mate. Have you checked your brake lights !! wink.gif

I'm lost for words.....What's the world coming to.

Craig, you do realise that those bikes aren't good for your aerodynamics don't you. Anyway those bikes have wheels......get the kids to ride behind and follow you mate. Tell them it's a marathon-kids'll believe anything.

Thoroughly shocked,

Van
