Hi all

 

I got my ZX back fromt he garage after the 72K service today. The technician didn't replace the auto-box oil as he didn't have the gearbox sump gasket. I thought UK cars had a drain plug on the auto trans, but he said there defo wasn't one..... :confused:

 

Any thoughts?

Buddy the auto box on an import deffo has a drain plug because i drained mine tonight due to box failure :( Not sure about the uk but should be the same :confused: Think it was a 19 mill plug.

I believe that not all auto boxes have a drain plug, maybe it depends upon the year.

mines an import and DOESN'T have a drain plug, had to drop the pan to

replace fluid

Knew this thread was ere somewhere. Had my UK car up on the ramps at the weekend and my auto defo has a drain plug for the box fitted.

If the box takes about 8 or more litres yet you can only drain about 3 or 4 out of the sump you are only diluting dirty oil with new by refilling. How do you do a total change out without dropping the box and tipping it out of the torque converter as well??

Well im back again with this mistery of the missing sump plug. As i said previously my auto box had a sump plug and was on a Jap import. I managed to get another box which was off another Jap import and to my suprise when i got it home to drain it,there was 'no' plug. I managed to drain the box easily because i could tip the oil out of the hole where the dipstick tube should of been until the level was low enough to take the sump off. How is this done on the car?? Surly when you remove the sump at full level the oil will p#ss everywere!. :confused:

i did mine on a 4 poster, and obviously you need a LARGE rectangular pan

which you hold up under the box as you start to release the pan, (helps if two of you)

if its just a change then you change the oil it drops, if your changing because

its contaminated or burnt, then you need to change the oil about 3 times to try and make sure the torque converter gets changed as well, this means

running the car between changes
