Time to get your toothbrush out :D best way to clean it really,

steam = water and intense heat, probably not a good combination around the engine of a car like a zed, unless they guarentee they won't feck it up and will pay for repairs....

Do a search. I remember quite a few horror stories with people who steam cleaned their Z engine.

NO do not do it! you will cause more problems than it's worth.

If I remember righlty is can cause your wiring to go britle. I helped a forum member once cleaning all his connectors in the engine bay and the wiring was all britle which happened after a steam clean.

Vijay

yep, agree with u guys this is a definate no no!!

i would not blast steam at 150psi at those little expensive bits

Aha right so a small steam cleaner won't get all the elecrtric connections wet

well tbh Iain if your connectors are in that poor a condition that a little moisture is gonna send them up the creak you should think about changing anyway.

most of the connectors on the car have rubber inserts which helps to prevent water getting in.

TBH Ryan that is no excuse to let loose with a steam cleaner inside an engine bay that has so many connections, the thought of it stupidity at it's best IMHO

WD40, brushes and a lot of elbow grease. Autoglym do a good engine degreasant as well. Worked wonders on the underside of the bonnet.

so what about all these people with bonnet vents (yours included) surely there most be a shed load of moisture and water from rain getting in to the engine bay , and half the zeds on this board have no undertrays so moisture and rain will be getting in to the engine bay to.

Ok mine have undertrays so not a problem for me,however there is a bit of a differance between rain water trickle or a fookin pressure steam clean

Iain I think we are just going to have to agree to disagree , like I said I have a small steam cleaner which I use on cars without any problem what so ever , but as I have said I would not an industrial one due to the amount of water and pressure involved

what about that GUNK stuff. Does that need washing off - am I alright to use a little water from one of them garden spray gun things to degrease engine with that, as long as I steer clear of most electrical items.

Ryan, you on about one of them little vaporetti things?

Yep .. That should be ok ... Just say clear of the electrical connections.

Better still, get Ryan down with his steamcleaner .. he loves it ;)

Gunk is great I normally use this to great effect , not sure about the garden hose though Jay

not sure off the make got it from B&Q , only holds 3lt water so not big but it has a steam jet on it which means the steam is directed at the exact point and not over a 20cm radius if you see what I mean ,

I think this could be quite useful.

Especially if the steam is directed at the exact point.

Also has quite a long thin handle so you can get behind the turbo's etc

Nothing wrong with that,If we all agreed life would be so boring:D However IMHO only a complete :x: would steam clean a Z32 engine bay.;)
