just changed the hub assembly on my o/s front. after i fitted the new one, the abs light has come on. it was working fine before the replacement, so i don't think it's the sensor. have i missed something in the assembly process? is there something i should do to reset the abs? any (intelligent/sensible) ideas gratefully accepted. that means no wise cracks Herman ;)

The light will come on if the ABS detects a problem. The only ABS problem I can think of which will cause the ABS light to come on straight away is a sensor is not there or unplugged. If the sensor is on but not working correctly it will only be found after driving for a few yards over 12mph or something.

The only other problem which would cause the ABS light to come on I think is low brake fluid level. But im not sure whether its the ABS light or handbrake light which would light up. Either way, check the brake fluid level.

Tack,

This problem is more common than you would think, in part due to the age of the wiring and sensors, it is probably fair to assume a fair bit of the knocking and banging whilst doing the job at the hub has damaged the aformentioned fragile wheel sensor, in fact I have witnessed the same happen if a the track rod end is removed too forcefull ( without a splitter )as the sensor is very close by.

Check the ABS fault light for any flashing codes. You can view this when the engine is running and the dashboard abs light is on permanantly, by looking through the gap in the rear seat squab behind the drives seat where the seat belt passes through, at worse just remove the lower seat section and you can see the unit more clearly and the fault code light, bet the sensor has gone, bad luck if it has, if you get a 2nd hand one it is easy to change just check it first with a multi tester to see it has the correct resistive value, which will prove it is ok. In fact you can do this with your present one, the connector is inside the engine bay inner wing.

Hope that helps

Thanks fellas. Yes Jeff, there was a faif bit of banging about. Although I did use a splitter. I thuoght the job went a little too easy. lol. If it is the sensor, how much is this likely to cost?
