Cleaning your Engine Bay

What is the best way of cleaning your engine bay ?

I have had it suggested that you can just Jet-Wash it, surely this cannot be correct ? or is it Jest-Wash, GROAN !!!

No, no, no - don't JetWash the engine bay - you'll do the car a lot more harm than good (think dodgy connectors etc.) I have just yesterday made a start at cleaning up the engine bay by using engine degreaser, a bucket of water, all sorts of brushes, cloths and scrubby things and above all lots of elbow grease. It is amazing ... I thought that the inside of the engine bay was sprayed in a different matt colour but it has come up even shinier than the exterior! Just be very carefull when you get close to any sensor or connector.

Just my 2p worth...

Cheers,

NOOOOOOOOO! Don't do that geeZer, my mate had the engine bay on his Bimmer steam cleaned once and it screwed his electrics up big time!!!

I would not advise Jet Washing/Steam cleaning the engine bay on a Z, whether it be Twin Tub or Normally Arse-pirated(no offence intended to anyone with a N/A...honest! LOL!) under any circumstances.

Use gunk cleaner from Harry's or something equally as shite and needing loadsa elbow grease...you've been warned!

I even polished my engine bay on Sunday...

So the car rewarded me by braking down on the M40.....

So I'd advise just leaving it dirty!

I washed the exterior and the air con compressor siezed.. So again - don't wash it! They don't like it...

Az

That was close - I was gonna have the engine steam cleaned yesterday and I ran out of time.

Guess I won't bother now, I'll just have to get rid of all the power steering oil with Gunk. smile.gif

Ok i have found that if you get engine cleaner while the engine is cold. use it with brushes or whatever you can get to get in nooks and crannies, then just water it of gently, start the engine, and let it warm up nicly to get any water out of areas and you should be fine. i have done this a couple of times and it works fine (and no the misfire was not due to this, it was due to f$$%$^#$@$^! italian mechanics)

superguy.jpg BUFF MAN!!!! or is that DUFFMAN????

Exactly Az, don't wash them, steam clean them, drive them and only look at them through a mirror or you'll turn to stone...INSTANTLY!!! LOL!

CheerZ GuyZ & GalZ ! A close one ! I guess there is no easy way.

Herman - Now looking forward to skinning his knuckles !

WD40 and a cloth works for me, nothing to wash of.

If you must resort to using any water make sure the engine is warm first.
