Reading should be taken in N while the box is warm and the engine is running.

cheers guys for the info ....you guys must be right or your Z would be broke now,,, it was the nissan dealers at Kent auto panels that advised me to put into D and check but i think they know nothing about the Z only that quote " she sounds nice" I will try it in N and take a reading,,

I know a mechanic who thinks you're meant to check the level in drive....... He doesn't get near my ZX, LOL ;)

According to handbook, with the engine/gearbox warm (say after 15 minute drive) and the engine running, run the gear lever from P down to 2 then back again. Put it into N (leave engine running) then take reading..... ;)

My gearbox oil is still clean and pink too - even though it's due for a change next week with 72K service

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

cheers for the advice richardsmith ill try that..:)
