Tick Over...Fooking PITA

I still have the same problem, start the engine from cold, ticks over fast at 1-2000 rpm, then as it warms, slows down......then fooking splutters and coughs to a stall. My heater matrix blew recently, so i have overidden the the matrix heater pipes by joining the two pipes up on the engine bay side, no the the matrix inlet pipes, i've join the ones on the engine. Have i missed something?

Another funny thing is happening, you know it has 3 inlet manifolds eigther side right, well the left hand side manifolds get very hot very quickly, whereas the right hand ones stay cold, and i mean cold, is this normal? I'm guessing not.

Is these problems all related, seem to have started at the same time, i've checked the temp sensor, was corroded, but cleaned it and wiggled it whilst engine running, no change.

Help, i know im a winging fook, but i'm at a loss here

The thing with one side of the engine getting hot dont sound right, but id wager your dodgy tickover will be a combination of dirty throttle bodies, and that other valve thingy thats on one of the pipes somewhere, while were on the subject can anyone tell me where the afforementioned valve thingy is as im not sure as to where it is, all i know is its by the bulkhead.

Sounds as though maybe your idle control valve isn't working. When it's cold, it's running on air through the warm up vavle, then when that closes it stops.

You may be able to open up the bypass screw a bit to keep the revs up. Also chack the connector on the idle valve, they're often broken.

But the damn thing is knocking too now, and it still misfires badly when i rev it, the idle is just as bad when its warm! Ta for the input though, any other suggestions?

might not be relevant to the Z with the inlet being the way it is, but, i had a Nova GTE many moons ago, and one day that started doing this kind of thing, would tick over when cold, then as soon as is warmed up, revs would drop and eventually die.

Turned out to be an 2 bad injectors,m all clogged up, when cold, some fuel vapour was finding its way into them cylinders from the 'choke' and managing to fire!, when it warmed up, not enough fuel vapour roaming around the manifold and it died.

Id check injector connection and give them a clean too :) may as well

Did that mate, £40 on new Spark Plugs, Cleaned up Injector connectors too, no difference, my car does it when its hot or cold, makes no difference.

mmm..guessing you checked all the vacuum hoses, no splits, leaks etc

maybe the dreaded PTU, or coil packs? Try swapping the coil packs from one bank to the other and see if the opposite side of the manifold warms up, if it does, could be coil packs i guess.

Maybe check fuel pressure too, though you may not have a gauge floating about to do it

Nah mate, Swapped over coil packs to opposite banks, Hoses Checked too!

Air lock in the system? you tried bleeding the coolant system?

good point actually Mike, will try that in a min, but would that cause misfires and stalling on idle?

hmmm...now im getting confused :)

Does it start ok, like you have to crank it ages to get it to fire, or it fires right up?

Sorry mate, would love to come look, but i gotta put my own Z together all this week :(

Ok no worries mate.

Yeah it cranks up instant, then dies after about 5-8 seconds, but initial crank up is starting to become difficult.

It's starting to sound like a TPU problem to be honest.

Fine when cold but starts to misbehave when warm.

Have you got anyone near you that you could try swapping the PTU's over just to see if this solves the problem ?.

No mate, i'm after someone to come on over so i can do a few swaps of components to test, even offered to pay £50 or for fuel, no takers yet though!

BTW, it does whether hot or cold, makes absolutely no difference.

hmmm i agree on the PTU, is beginning to sound like its that

i could probably come up one evening when the garage where mine is is closed, i got plenty of spare parts I could bring with me, coil packs, PTU, loadsa stuff as mines in pieces :(
