yep there are 4 grades of bearings. You should measure your crank to see what grade you require.

Its in the engine mechanical section of the manual

Mike speak to Mike @ MJP in the trader section,he knows his stuff;)

grades are marked on the crank and the block.

Chances are though after X miles that the crank isn't the size it started off at any how. LOL.

Hi Jez

Well thats what the service book says so we got all the correct numbers but 3 defferent dealerships could not make hean nor tail of what needed ordering!!

Mike

LOL, Nissan not the sharpest tools. :)

Try Mike @ MJP. He'll be cheaper too.

Mike will probably ask him what grade he wants

Hi Stu

I know what grade i want, nissan were trying to get me to buy the bearing kit, and 2 extra full sets of bearings?? then told me to go to an engine place in preston!!??

yes but he has those details now surely?

It's all in the manual isn't it?

Personally if the crank is out I'd get it checked by a decent engine place that the journals are nice and round, and within size etc. Then I'd also probably get them polished & just use some decent aftermarket shells.

Ive had it checked and the journals are as new...which was a bonus so no grinding needed but found out today that the crank has already been lightened and balanced so even though i had decided not to bother as it doesnt make that much difference, nice

Mike

I've heard that too, harder compound IIRC, could be bull or myth though. LOL

:D

If the crank is lightened and balanced I doubt the bearing grades on the side of the crank will be correct then.

why?

You think it may be the crank from a different lump?

The grades are correct from when the time the thing was made. Even there was not play on my crank (ooo errrr) I was advised by the place where I got the block bored and crank polished that I should measure the bearings myself.

Yeah I agree, I can't see the crank being the same grade now as it was new.

did you measure your crank and then match it to the grade sizes?

That said, would need to be a bloody good micrometer to measure the difference of 0.3 of a thou.

Did I?

No I asked them to measure it after polishing and order the correct grade bearings.

Im so Lazy! :D

For something like this its worth double checking with a micrometer. Better done right now for sure than find run bearings once its all back in the car.

Yes measure the bearings, BTW the z31 bearings can handle more BHP but not as resilent to contamination, the stock bottom end, can handle 600bhp so I wouldn't worry!

Go to mike at MJP, you will never go to a Nissan dealer again!
