hi all,

As most of you know the Zed got written off.

The insurance company, phoned this morning to tell me in checked with the DVLA and he says it an import so only going to give me £3700.

Thats *****cks, as my car is a UK model with full service history from the dealership to begin with. It has the standard bigger wheels on the back, front and back UK bumpers.

The cars even the UK models were made in Japan, so of course when they come over here they are coming from another country (import).

Perhaps the first owner went to japan and got it, I do not know.

Is there any other difference's between Jap Import and UK, as I need to tell this engineer from the insurance company it is a UK model not a Jap (Gray Import).

Bloody insurance companys.

cheers, Alastair.

LOL I wouldn't do that if I were you - according to Nissan, they couldn't get bits for my car cos its an import... Yeah course it is  Stupid ****ing ****s :xxx:

Yeah, my local dealers a) tried to charge me 800 smackers for a steering wheel, and b) thought the (AIV) clunking was a water pump! *****s

Results:

The engineer said 'The car was used in Japan for a year, then imported to the UK'.

Why someone in Japan got a UK Model has confused me.

From £3700 After Excess there will be enough money to buy a normal car

I think you may have to bite the bullet here,as i had a near simlar problem that i posted about 18 months back, but luckily i found out, check what your insurance schedule says, and any other documents,if it does not say Import anywhere then i would not push it to far with them,if it says Fairlady Z then you ok as that in itself denotes that its an Import ,it seems as though yours has ins for UK Model but is an Import so technicaly they would if clued up enough would be in there rights to not pay out,if what they are saying is true about the car then all this time you have been using it with NO legal ins,if you were to say take it further, you will find that at the end of the day its your responsability to check all documents are correct when taking out insurance,we all sign and return copy of schedule agreeing to the ins.

There are some bad insurers out there who say yea yea we can insure your 300zx,even imports,so you say great mine is an import, they give you what seems great quote, send you the schedule, you sign and send back, but have you read it properly, does it say Import or Fairlady Z,then god forbid big accident, your stuffed :( So tread carefully!

Hi, Sorry about your plight. There are 3 pages that may help you in the Online Manual, on identification (pages 18, 19 & 20):

http://300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi?list=gi&dir=&config=&refresh=&direction=forward&scale=0&cycle=off&slide=18&design=default&total=25

Apologies, I have been away from the site some time, and forgotten how to quick link this for you (must recall it for the future).

Good luck, Geoff

UK autos don't have a Hold switch.

What year was it made ?

last UK ones were 1994.

It sounds like you have loads of proof it's a UK car.

I'd try the insurance ombudsman. They can give your insurance company a proper kicking as they're clearly mucking you about. And make them pay out the full amount.

I have the phone number at work I think, if you want it.
