Electrical problem.

Hi

When ideling, if I turn my lights on the revs drop about 100 rpm, if I close the window and continue to press the button after it has closed the revs also drop. Also when I pulling away with my headlights on, about a second after I pull away the light dip very slighly for a fraction of a second.

I have checked the battery and it is fine...

Check the charge from the alternator to the battery, sounds like its not getting the proper charge voltage

When the engine is ticking over, and you switch things on it will apply a load so the engine revs will drop in theory.

Any chance you could check on your motor to see if it happens?.

Cheers.

So it could mean a dicky alternator then, or could these be caused by bad/old wiring.

Could well be the alternator. :(

I read in the buyers guide in Jap Performance magazing that they are only good for around 50k miles. My Zed has now done 70k on the original so I'm waiting...........

Richard ;)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I will do some tests at my workshop in the morning and post a reply when I get home

check the alternator drive belt it could be just slipping and needs tightening

How can the alternator not be charging properly if the engine revs are dropping? If the revs drop, there is a load on the engine, ie the alternator doing its job and charging the battery...

A zed with electrical problems? Never!

Had same, changed alternator and still have it, come down to supply and demand. Your demanding more power than the system is supplying, so the engine revs up to compensate.

Now if your battery is flat in 3 days withought driving it, then you have a problem. Like I do

I checked 3 different 300's today all do it...

....or just fit a bigger battery :)

Thanks oneday for checking that.

get a multimete and check the battery, if it reads over 12 v then all is ok, preferably around 12.5, this is with the enigine off.

now start the car and check the voltage again, it should be around 14 v.

If you have under 14 v then it sounds like your alternator is not up to the job. If in the first test you dont get over 12v then your battery is not up to the job.
