Whats the highest BHP car you can get for £5000??????

Was having a ponder about this and was wondering what you guys think?

The rules are that the total cost of the car and modifications has to be no more than 5k in total!!

Surely the zed has to be one of the top runners if not the top, for around 5k you can get it to the high end of the 300's

Maybe the cossie is another contender?

my zed TT manual with HKS induction kit HKS EVC boost control and unknown jap chip

all for £3800 i just need a decat and exhaust and i should be over 400bhp

you can't buy anthing else for that sort of money

sorry to say but i reckon the mk3 supra turbo :) can be picked up for under a grand in good nick (my father sold one just recently for 950 in good nick). Spend 4k on that and well, I should imagine you'd have a good contender :D

wouldnt have thought its gonna be anywhere near a zed at 1 bar of boost!!

stock they are 230bhp ish... add some cheap nos and you're up to 300bhp and still have 3k left :P

It depends..........

My first thought was something like cossie, Z, Soop, but them i thought about a kit car with a V8, Cossie lump etc.

I know thats more Power to weight but thats just what i think ;)

Rich:)

I think we should say no NOS allowed cos you could buy just about anything with a big engine and whack loads of gas into it.

Remember when Top Gear did that sort of thing, Clarkson got an old 3.5 rover and had it bored out with bigger carbs and stuff, and VBH had a 16v astra engine put into a stupid little Nova. The Rover wasted the Nova when they took them on the track

How about a jaguar xjs 5.3 v12? You can pick them up for under 2k, then nos the hell out of it like they did on top gear.

I think your words have fallen on deaf ears Paul LOL, right I am making the rules as it is my post and no NOS allowed :D

Under 5 grand? Kit car. Just seen one for sale for £3k, v8. £2k sends that silly, was in a god awfull looking car though

Poo off a spade!

Well not really big BHP, but after watching the 0-60 at Trax last year I have to say for that sort of cash Mark the GTi-R is a barn stormer! Would f\/ck a Cossie into oblivion and they were getting some serious times (GTi-R guys).

Well saying that, nevermind the Cossie's...bikes were struggling to make the same sort of times.

I've gone off the BHP figures way of looking at tuning, power to weight ratio is where it's it. Like the Exige on Top Gear tonight, 1.8 VVT-i engine and goes like stink.

Watching the MR-2 guys at the Anglesey track a few weeks ago and to be fair they were giving the Caterham's and Hyabusas a good run for their money.

For big bhp, I'm with Hi5......Mk3 Soop ;)

You can get a sound one for £1-1500 with 233bhp stock. Sort the headgasket weakness and the engines are bullet proof.

stage 3 tubby for £750 from Fensport, Mongoose zorst for £400 frees up over 30bhp (stock zorst is really that restrictive), K&N induction kit for £150 adds near 14bhp then chip it for about £400.

You are looking at 300-330 bhp for about £1700 + labour + the cost of the car (less than £4000?). Plus Toymota reliability

You may also (just) get a Pork 928 early s4 (5 litre) with 320bhp stock for £5k (with galactic mileage?).

V12 jag - XJs is cheap now - comes with 265-285bhp stock.....

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

power to weight all the way people. If it wasnt so important F1 wouldnt spend a fortune on it to save a ounce hre and there
