I am taking delivery of my 92' zx twin turbo(black) from Japan in two weeks time. I have been reading up on it and buying a few bits in preparation but I have a few questions.

- I am trying to get a new set of wheels for it, however most of the local 'boy racer' shops obviously cant cater for the car. I was thinking of putting on a set of eighteens with 265's at the rear and 235's at the front. Is this a good set up? I was advised by the local 'boy racer' shop that they could get 265's on all round, surely this is going to affect the handling? Any trusted wheel dealers names and addresses would be gratefully recieved.

- The only other real change I want to make to the car, apart from engine work, is to lower it. Do the standard adjustable shocks make this a ridiculously expensive exercise? What is the best way to go about it? Will it need lowering with a set of eighteens on it?

- Can I come to some track days please? :xxx: I will even put a web address sticker in my window for you!

Hi Scortboy

Welcome to the forum :)

You will have trouble with "regular" wheel retailers for the ZX as there aren't many manufacturers who supply wheels either wide enough or with the correct offset owing to the large clearance needed for the brakes.

If you like Azev wheels (see my car in "my rides" section) then contact Dave at DT motorsport They are the UK importers of Azevs and will sell them to you at the same price he sells to other retailers so you get a good deal.

Otherwise try Wheelmania in Birmingham as they have some decent designs for the ZX too. For tyre sizes on 18s 265/35/18 rear and 235/40/18 front are probably best combo. Any wider than 235 on the front will affect the steering and the car will tramline badly. Those sizes will fill the arches nicely without the need to lower the car - I have 17s on standard suspension and the car doesn't really need lowering.

Imports do not have adjustable shocks, only the UK cars do and on the rears only. Lowering the car will have an effect on wheel camber and accentuate tyre wear on the inside edge. There was an article on buying a ZX in Japanese Performance (nov 1992 IIRC) where a couple of experts (eg Mike Feeney - a trader here) on the Zx said it is best not to fit lowering springs. Although some members have done (maybe with help of camber correction kits) and could advise you better on this.

The best bit of advice I will give, is once you have your car enjoy it - you wont be dissapointed  .....Oh and send Ajay a cheque for £20 to subscribe to the club

Money well spent IMO as this site will save you time and money aplenty, should you have any problems with your car.

Turning a blind eye to the odd member "testing out their car" wouldn't go amiss either, officer  ;)

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi Scortboy

Welcome to the forum :)

welcome mate try the z-centre in the traders forum

Welcome.

I have no idea about your questions apart from i am running 225/40 on 18's. Car handles fine. Usually going wider makes the wet handling more unstable at the back end. If you are only taking it out in the dry then.....

Oh and why are you using the :xxx: symbol? you know it means w@nker right?

Where abouts in the south of england are you? I live in southampton and there is a good place here.

Wheelmania do have a few wheels that fit - they're good - mine are from them, but avoid the chromes as the facing is a bit flimsy.

Geoff.

Cheers people, I will bear all that in mind, bit disapointed about the suspension not being adjustable though. I will send the cheque, just trying to sort out a pre-pay internet account thingy. I will mail you tack, I reckon my zx is the only one in my town and so dont really want to advertise where it is all over the net! sounds like I should probably wait until the car arrives and take it somewhere rather than buying wheels off the shelf.

As for the smilie, whoops, I thought it was a picture of someone getting excited!
