New member seeking advice

Hi Guys n Gals,

Just bought myself a 1990 Jap spec TT but have had a possible problem pop up which i hope somebody can shed light on.

When i have been sat in stop start traffic for say 30 mins and then get to an open bit of road, i stick my foot down and it seems to be in saftey boost. The boost seems fine in all other driving conditions apart from this. Any idea's? (Caused me to get blown away by a Golf VR6)

Also, do you guys know where i should take my car for any work in Bristol. I have been using a Jap Specialist near Bristol but when they said my 5inch Twin Exhaust Pipes looked stock when even a muppet knows stock pipes are quads i lost a bit of confidence in them.

Hi Matey

you really need to get it on a Conzult to see whats going on or learn to do a self diagnostics see AndyP's site in links for info on how to do this , how do you know its going in to safety boost , do you have an aftermarket boost gauge ???

I am based the other side of Swindon , give me a shout if you need a hand

No after market boost guage was going by the pics in the buyers guide on my stock boost guage.

I would not rely to much on the stock gauge as they are pretty pants and more often than not inacurate

If it's down on power after sitting in traffic then there must be something wrong - not just the gauge being inaccurate.

The PTU is a good one for failing under heat but I would think you would notice it being slightly rough?

Maybe engine heat when sitting in traffic is making the connection to the knock sensor connection go intermittant and the cars going into safety boost.

Putting a conzult on and then finding 30 minutes of traffic (not hard in UK! ) should show any problems.
