When it's wet or if I do a fully blown take off in the dry with lots of wheel spin, I tend to get a lot of axle tramp. Does anyone know a way to solve this without having to remove the rear subframe to get to its bushes?

I've ordered a set of those but I won't know what they are like for a while.

Axle tramp ? Is where the rear end hops under heavy launch ?

 

I fitted new shocks to get rid of this but she still does it, maybe I need new subframe mounts :(

From what I've read and experienced, this is caused by the floating rear sub frame and squidgy subframe & diff bushings.

 

I have Energy Suspension bushes all round now and it's almost completely gone (still get a very small amount when wet). The bushings are harsher than stock, and transfer more noise, but I love them :D. Only went with this route rather than spacers as mine were leaking anyway.

 

If you've got stock bushes that are not leaking you can try the spacers - the guys in the states swear by them. You can also try solid bushes if you're brave.

 

There are also collars available wich have the same affect as the spacers but keep the subframe in it's central location.

I've got this arriving tomorrow - was lucky enough to have a mate visiting Miami last week and he pipcked it up for me.

Mmmmmmm :D Zero compliance on these though so expect a much noisier ride ;) I WILL be fitting these some time soon :) Rear wheel hop is also contributed to by the bushings on the diff casing so worth fitting poly bushes there ;)

I actually ordered those Andy, but I changed to the spacers after waiting a month for them holding the rest of my order back.

I've got one leaky bush but I'm hoping the spacers will hide it from the MOT ;) and improve things until I have time to do the job properly.

I understand that these spacers work by crushing the softness out of the bushes to make the subframe rigid with the body. Will this not also make the zed incredibly noisy inside with the noise transmission. I find 18" wheels and tyres bad enough for noise transmission. Surely this would make the car near unbearable for normal driving?

Possibly but my driving is not normal LOL :hyper:

So a more than a bit of vibration throught the seat of your pants is your kind of buzz;)

Is the fitment of spacers not too bad a job then?

Spacers look easy... if there is such a thing on a Z!

Suport the subframe, remove the bolts and put a spacer on one at a time.

 

To replace stock bushes you have to remove the prop/axles/diff/subframe and press them out/in - a big job.

Are they actual Whiteline antiroll bars you have on order. I didn't realise they did them for the Zed! I fitted a pair to my S13 and are excellent!

They are indeed ! From Demon Tweeks. They also sell the full Whiteline adjustable camber stuff too - although I resisted spending out on it. Should be here at end of May - fitted sometime in 2006 probably :D

I look at their site quite often but they hardly have any of their stuff on it.

Even their catalogue doesn't list everything they sell.

Is their a site where I can see this gear?
