hi both of my seat belts have gone strange, they used to retract fine when uncliped or when you turn the ignition off, they'd zip back, but know they just sit there and you have to feed them back in your self, WELL ANOYING!

is there any sensor or something like that, that could have gone? seems strange that both have gone together.

thanks very much

Mine always have been slow to retract, usually need some help from me, or undo them about 10 seconds from bringing the car to a stop.

Yeah - mines the same, I reckon its the retractor spring inside the mechanism thats gone. After 12 years, I'm not suprised TBH. When I can be bothered, I may take alook.

Is there not an electronic gizmo that makes it retract, and if so surely it has a fuse somewhere.

mine does the same have to feed it back myself if theres a fuse i want to know where it is ;)

I doubt if its electronic, seems just like spring action, spring is a bit on the weak side.

Mine wouldnt retract at all, so took door panel off and took the mechanism to bits. Done it about a year ago but if i remember , there are electrical connections that make the belt lock under v.heavy braking. The prob with mine was the little marble gizmo that makes the belt lock if the car isnt horizontal side to side. Took it out and cured the prob.

Inside the door panel where the seatbelt winds into, under one of the plastic covers on it. Its meant to hold in a little 'cup' and only move when the car tilts I guess but due to wear ard tear it just doesnt sit in the cup all the time so ends up locking when it shouldnt. On mine it did that as well as the mechanism under the other plastic cover getting stuck where it shouldnt, I geve it a good working with some oil and its not too bad now. As for the seatbelt retracting when you turn the ignition off, theres like a small pin with an electromagnet thing and when you turn the key it moves and stops the seatbelt locking therefore the seatbelt should retract all the way in.... Hope that makes sense :slap:

i know my passenger one works, as it scares the passengers when you pull into a petol station and when the ignition goes off the seatbelt tries to throttle them!!!

Dunno about the drivers one as i only wear it in front of the police or at high speed with the roof off!!!

Also how many people with jap specs, have injured passengers by opening their door to ask them if they want a drink or something and nearlt crushed them with the belt??

ROFL, i know exactly what you mean, i crushed my 5 year old daughter doing that! Poor thing...

if they retract when the key is out and the ignition is off maybe the turbo timer if you have one fitted could be the cause of the problem , have you tried it with the engine

not running and the timer timed out ??
