Or for cheaper/easier solution try rubbing Armor All protectant on the rubbers.

Stopped mine leaking!!

Trying sticking some wire down the drainage holes too (they run down by the windscreen at the front of the targas, and down into the wheel srch somewhere at the rears. These were clogged up on mine and caused the water to sit there and eventually leak into the car.

As indicated in the link, the main cause of leaks seems to be the seal between the striaght rubber piece and the targa top. Putting new seals (from Zedcentre £34) in, they never seam to be pushing against the targa hard enough, no matter how you try. I have tried elongating the holes in the rails to push the closer. In the end, the "seek and seal" stuff work the best. Problem is with that stuff is that it never sets up, and you will get some washed down your windows abit in heavy downpours, re-apply some more once it has had chance to dry out. Clean excess stuff off the window with engine degreaser spray stuff. I have been able to get it down to an occasional drip in heavy downpours. You can press some sponge foam in the inside gap between the targa and body, which will absorb small drips, then dry out before the next storm. I have tried silicone instead of "seek and seal" but its too thick, and causes unevenness, which allows water in.

Ideally what we need is a very thin paint-on type of sealant, anyone know of one ?

it's not that easy to find (seek and seal). I've tried and couldn't find it anywhere so my mechanic has spoken to his supplier who is sending some other stuff which I should have today.

Had the same problem myself the other day and all i did was lift the top off and apply a good smear of vasaline. Voila! Job done. No more drip  . I first did this in Dec last year and it worked ok. Then we had one day of sun the other day and i had the roof off and forgot to reseal it. Thats why the drip was back :( . Worth a try buddy!!

Its very unusual for the top to leak around the top of the seal in the "U" around the targa, that area is up out of the water line, well above the gutter. The common place seams to be at the 2 corners where it meets the body molding, and the main cause seams to be the straight rubber piece that is attached to the targa.

Mine drips just onto the passenger side seat at the front.

i had (have) this problem too, once cured it by putting an air line down all the roof drainage holes and making sure they were clear. Didn't permanently solve it though cos i think at the end of the day, the targa roofs are not really up to the job of repelling constant british downpours! have had the new rubber ordered too and don't fancy smearing any of the aforementioned products over the rubbers. The only 100% cure i can put forward (that i have found), unfortunately, is to invest in a car cover!

I wish you good luck mate, but from everyone I have spoke with fitting new rubbers usually does not cure the leak, they simply dont go back the way the factory ones were fitted. One guy on this forum bought an entire set from Courtesy in Texas, cost about $500, and still they leaked. I have spent about £200, and only last week got the car watertight with the help of stuff in a spray can.

yep, that was kind of my point, that i don't expect the new rubber to cure it, hence the car cover! what was the product you used John?

I tried quite a few, the one that finally worked was a bit messy, but I was sick and tired of getting a wet arse and shoulder while I was driving, and putting a bin bag over the seats at night,(I drive my zed daily, and use it for going to work.

Most products I tried either did not set up (very thin like "seek and seal" or too thick, like silicone.

I finally used a bitumen spray called "Isoflex" from B & Q, but as I have said earlier, you should not need it anywhere else but for the straight rubber targa seal. It is messy, but the surplus cleans off the paintwork with that engine degreaser spray stuff.
