With mechanical you have to feed hoses carrying oil/water etc into the cabin to the gauges, with electrical you just have 3 small wires so in my opinion electrical are best :D

cheers baz, thats what i thought, but i did'nt know which are more accurate.

cheers mate

To be honest, i would have thought electric would be more accurate cos with mechanical the internals of the gauges are basically springs being acted on by pressure or heat so over a period of time the constant winding and unwinding of the springs has got to cause some inaccuracy. JUST MY OPINION OF COURSE.

but with electrical theres a sender unit which brings in an additional element of inaccuracy ;)

both have there pros and cons, but youd be better with mechanical for boost but the others wouls be better as electrical

But when it wears out, an new universal sender will cost you £6-7. When a mechanical one goes it will cost you a new dial.

i wasnt talking about failure, the gauge could also fail on an electrical one!!

Where did I say fail? I said wear out.

how does an electrical sender wear???

Electrical i got 5 of them. Before with mechanicals i had to check very frequently if there's a leak or something and they have the warning features and maximum readings

It's got to send a reading to the gauge... which means it's got to read something... which means the pressure plate or thermocouple or however the hell these things work could wear out. The difference with a mechanical gauge is that you have to replace the entire gauge if that happens, not just the sender!
