ive just got mine fitted by baggins very good hes on this site you cant go wrong, he will set all your car up and even get drinks and sandwiches if the missus is at home and he is very cheap.

you can't get 60bhp from a zed chip. 6 maybe.

got a link?

i rang for one the other week and was told it could give upto 70 bhp

*****cks.

a chip and a bleed valve or two possibly and the risk of shagging your engine.

I think John Dixon might worth speaking to.

Didn't know baggins was up to such stuff??

j d hes your man mate

Well you learn something new every day

You will not get 60 or 70 BHP , I set the cars up at 13-13.5psi which is well within the limits of injectors etc without pushing everything to hard , I also run a Conzult first to make sure there are no problems before doing the boost upgrade

I bought an ecu from ebay with this supposed set up got it back and there was a fault with it, so I have sent it back and im waiting for a replacement, hes been very helpful so far but will let you know the turn out when the next 1 turns up

Did you buy the whole ECU or just an Eprom ???

the whole ecu mate

Don't know which one you mean mate but I got one of the JWT chip + jets from eBay for £80 odd and am well pleased with it. Not been dyno-tested so cant vouch for the 60 horses, but bruddy feels like it!!! :)

i would have thought a 60bhp @f/w increase with a chip & boost increase is quite conservative TBH.

with supporting mods on a good engine you should be seeing around 400bhp (flywheel) as confirmed by the likes of my dyno run & SMW1's.

Dave , what size tips were supplied with the kit ???

Paul, does this suggest that my engine is shagged then? :( (290 RWHP at Thor - about 350 at fly?) Still running stock UK chip but peak boost is about 14psi...

well i couldnt get an accurate reading (check my dyno sheet out in the dyno section!!) as my tyres seemed to be doing a good nonstick frying pan impersionation on the rollers. saw 350bhp with slip - estimated at around 400. im running 16psi with a JWT chip

SMW1 had around 360ish RWHP at thor IIRC & i think he was running around 14psi.

i would want to try a chip & run again if i was you. 14psi on a stock ecu is a bit risky IMO & you may see a little improvement with a chip.

Paul, I don't think there's anything much more misleading than 'suspected Flywheel BHP figures' !

With induction, decatt, ecu and boost upgrades on stock everthing else you'd be lucky to be much over 360

IMHO

i never understand why everyone thinks its so misleading  measure at the wheels, dip the cluch & the recorded bhp loss from the transmission is recorded. add the 2 together - FWHP!!

as i said - stus figure of 360bhp was at the wheels (hubs) - so is his transmission losses are 0 then  thats mighty impressive dont you think?!?! :slap:

I think to be able to say that you will get any figure that a chip and either boost jets or boost controller would provide would be difficult.

You could have 10 cars with identical mods and they would all give different figures due to lots of different variables, which is why when fitting boost jets the same size will give 15psi on some cars and only 12psi on others , due to boost leaks and the state of the turbos etc etc.

im going on a rolling road tomorow

my car is an auto to get fly wheel figs do they just put it in N??

See you there. :)

Tis going to be a good day unless I throw my rattly rod. :D :D

SXOC are looking forward to taking the honours. :D

Just to clarify my previous posts, just chipping or swapping the ECU wont give you much (if any) performance gains.

The addition of jets will, but the addition of jets will regardless of whether you swap the map, you might melt stuff but that's life.

Personally I wouldn't trust anything in this context off ebay unless I knew the person selling it and that they have some degree of pedigree.

John & (apparently. ;):D) Baggins know what they are doing with the Zed so I'd trust them to some degree. But some one I didn't know selling copies of JWT chip can go to hell AFAIC. Besides aren't the JWT chips mapped for shite 93RON fuel?

I'll never rely on a generic chip again, I'll always get it custom mapped so I know it's right.

I must admit I would be very cautious about getting a chip from an un known source ,

Jezz , I am at a loss regarding your comment that you may melt stuff  if the car is running properly and the boost/injectors are within acceptable limits then you will not melt anything , of course pushing the car that much harder will speed up any turbo issues etc , but that is to be expected , there has to be some trade off.

I personally do not think it is a good idea to run 15psi-16psi all day long although plenty of people do this primarily is due to the injectors being maxed out at just over 14psi , which is why when i set the cars up up set them up at 13ish PSI to be on the safe side

I have actually found that I get much more power advancing the timing to 18degrees and running the boost at 13psi than running 15psi of boost at 15degrees.

Ryan

I ment using the stock ECU with boost jets, IE not chipped to cope with it.

I also agree more advance & less boost is the way forward.

Better alround performance (off boost), and better fuel economy.

I see what you mean , could not agree more I think you will just be asking for trouble upping the boost on a stock ECU

BAGGINGS:

Is it possible to get a chip for z31 non-turbo `84 ?

Thanks
