My zed has failed its mot today and I'm gutted!!!

I'm from Newcastle but my work takes me away to Scotland so my wife had the job of taking my car for its mot,

The failure sheet states that my car has failed on; o/s front fuel pipe leaking, rear steering rack leaking fluid, rear steering rack has excess free play, n/s front small brake pipe corroded to excess, n/s front main brake pipe corroded to excess, it also states that the o/s rear anti roll bar link arm is snapped, this is the 1st time I've mot'ed the car since I bought it (less then a year ago)

I've looked on the car at (what I think is the anti roll bar arm) and it looks as though the previous owner just had a new one fitted because it still looks new,

I was wondering if someone could tell me where exactly the anti roll bar arm is, (providing a picture of this arm would be of great help) If I am looking at the right thing on the car, then I'll know for sure that the garage has tried to pull a fast one on my wife with her not knowing anything at all about cars,

Also could anyone recommend a good genuine mechanic in the northeast area please, thanks for any help offered.

If a good Zed mechanic opened up in the North East

he'd make a fortune!!!

there must be one up here somewhere!

I've got a picture of when i was last under me car, but you cant really see Anything. I'm sure someone will correct me if im wrong but im fairly sure its the tubular (about an inch diameter) bar that is sat behind the bottom radiator hose (when underneath and looking forwards). You'll need to get the undertrays off to be able to see it. Sorry if that aint any help.

The link arm for the anti-roll bar you are refering too is on the end of the anti-roll bar itself and is a vertical bar with rubber bushes top and bottom.

This 'link arm' goes through the rear 'wishbone' that then 'levers' on the anti-roll bar (a least i think i know what i'm talking about ! !) We are talking about the rear anti-roll bar are'nt we ? I doubt the anti-roll bar itself is broken but bushes in that area are known for splitting/fatigue.

The 'play' in the rear rack is almost certainly worn ball joints at the inner end of the rack (pull back gaiters and check for play (easy)) also check the little ball joints 'pressed' into the hub (mine were thankfully OK) that the wheel end of the rear rack track rods attaches too, my ZX has just failed on this same thing (rear rack track rod inner ball assy,£68 each, ******** or NISSAN) . However i am thinking about purchasing mine from the USA as i was quoted $130 inc shipping for the pair ! (about £70) so i make that buy one get one free !

Its not too bad your MOT failure , ive seen a lot worse ! :p

The brake pipes should only cost a few £'s and should'nt be to hard to do, although ive never done them on a ZX.

Hope this helps and persuades you to not condemn your ZX ! ;)

When I had my last car (MR2) M.O.T.'d the tester pointed out worn out bushes in the rear anti-roll bar, but he said it was not part of the test, he was just pointing it out in case I was having trouble identifying a clunking noise going over bumps.
