 Im getting new tyres on sat, have to order them tomo so any replies tonight (tues) appreciated.

My local tyre guy can get me Goodyear eagle F1's GSD3 225/50x16 £94. fitted , good price!

But on the rear, 245/45x16 he says he can only get GSD2's £103. , but they have a slightly different tread pattern from GSD3's (grooves arent so long ).

Does anyone know if you can get GSD3's in 245/45x16 or is he right?

I've looked on http://www.mytyres.co.uk and they dont do them , as he says.

Cheers,

Goodyear don't make them as it's not a popular size. You cannot mix 2's and 3's in this way! Ensure your supplier checks with Goodyear, who I guarantee will advise the same. If you want GSD3's all round you will have to go to 17/18 inch wheels. I've got Bridgestone SO3's and reckon they're the dogs.

Why cant you mix 2's and 3's ? as long as its not on the same axle.

Plenty of zeds (including mine) have different tyres on the front to the backs.

I have F1 Eagles on the back and Continentals on the front.

yes some people have big spoilers and Carlos Fandangoes on their motors too but doesn't make it right...I however trust the advice of the manufacturer (Goodyear) not to do it, I don't know why didn't think to ask.

Thanks for that info dicko, i'll check that out tomo.

Ive had GSD3's on the front and Bridgestone SO2's on the rear for the last 10mnths or so and never had any probs tho. I cant imagine why 3's on the front and 2's on the rear could cause any problem? Thay are still eagle F1's and have very similar tread pattern and performance.

Anyone else running this combination?

Cheers,

It is simply a fact that no vehicle needs the same brand of tyres all around.

Other than the obvious of not mixing good tyres on one axle with bad tyres on the other, it is perfectly safe and acceptable to mix, and, dont believe everything manufacturers tell you, they are not looking out for your best interests.

Nothing whatsoever wrong with having gsd3s on the front and gsd2s on the rear......

Of all the tyres I've tried i think the goodyears are way better than all others (in fact only Michelin Pilot Sports came close, but they are v.pricey) and there is very little difference between the "2" and "3" anyway. I have the gsd3s all round, but i have 17s...... :)

Go for them, you'll not be dissapointed

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

hmm yes, can you tell me exactly whose interests Goodyear were thinking of when they advised me not to mix 'their own tyres'? On their advice I got Bridgestone!

Micheldever Tyres are well respected are they not? They also advise not to mix these particular tyres.

It seems strange to me that so many people on here bang about 'harmonics', grip, handling, and many other magic words when probably the most important element (tyres) in respect of serious speed you don't seem to think requires harmonisation. I think I'll trust the professionals thank-you and for those who think mixing and matching is fine then perhaps you're not driving quite as fast as you think you are :slap:
