Hi All,

I've bought a ZX in japan and hopefully it should be here in a month or so, but I would like people's opinnion on what i should have done to it straight away. I'm planning to put on new tyres, a TOAD alarm and get it serviced, but should I change things like the PTU and timing belts etc.?

A shortlist would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

how much did it cost in japan

how much all in after shipping

yen is quite low at the moment

Straight away i'd get it serviced and a cam belt

then fingers crossed

a service is a must as theres usually very little history with an import, courtesy in the states do a 60k kit, with all the belts, tensioners water pump seals etc. might be a little expensive but could prove to save £££'s long term.

Jap tyres are known for being cak! so unless its got bigger wheels & well known tyres then yes, changing the tyres is probably a good idea too.

a CAT1 alarm is gonna have obvious benefits & was one of the 1st things i fitted to mine.

PTU is one of those things that could go on forever, or could fail tomorrow. I wouldnt just replace it for fun tho ;)

also a good cleanup of electrical connectors & TB's would be a good idea & reset the ECU.

PCV valves & hoses would be a good idea on your list too.

Fill her up with a tank of Optimax & off you go!! :D

then comes the other bits if not already fitted............induction kit, zorst, chip (can you really live with a 112mph speed limiter) boost upgrade etc etc ;) :D

have fun!

Hi Sonix,

Personally I would do a 60k kit - http://www.courtesyparts.com/z32/z32-tbkita1.html as well as changing the oil. You've then got a good base to start your service records off. Don't take it for granted that the timing belt has been done just because it's written on some paperwork ;)

Vijay

New Cambelt a definite.

Hope all goes well.

Geoff.

Thanks for all the advice..

cadpaul: it cost 660,000 Yen in Japan which roughly cost me £3400 including all the bank charges.

but when you total up the customs, shipping, SVA test ('case it's less then 10 years old), agent fees, MOt, registration etc. it will probably cost me about 6k.

I reckon it's still worth it, it's a Black TT Auto 1995.

Also, i can't seem to get to the courtesyparts.com site, been trying for a couple of days now, is it just me?

When you get to the SVA part, ask for more info as they are a bit funny sometimes and want odd things doing, I know because I SVA'd mine, feel free to ask if it helps.

How do you order an import? Is there a site?
