Hi dave, met you outside south coast wheels at the weekend. how's it going?

as for the stereo problem, you say the PART of the original stereo was nadged. do you know if the rear speakers were working to begin with? incidetally congrats on the purchase of the zed

i know but i have replacement speakers to go in the slots that u can hear...

Dave

I think that the rear speakers have built in amps so you will need to tweak the existing wiring or run new speaker cable...

UK cars (not sure about imports) have an amplifier for the rear speakers. So just connecting the adaptor cable means that the rears won't work as the live feed for the amp is no longer connected. Use a scotchlok connector to join the accessory live (for electric aerial) to the power feed for the amp.

That way you can still use the factory amp and do not have to by pass it and connect the rear speakers directly to the new head unit.

I know this sounds obvious. Count the wires coming out of the new head unit and make sure it's got the same amount as the car end so to speak.

I don't claim to be an expert, far from it. As to the idea that the rears have a seperate amp. I don't think the imports can have one. I fitted my sony in place of the jap unit and I've had no probs like this.

Now this is the silly bit! there are 5 wires at the stereo end and only 4 at speaker end. oh and to make things even harder the wires at the stereo end don't match the speaker end wires.

The rear amp was standard on UKs and an option on Japs.

Sounds A Dumb Question....... Where Is The Amp?

All the relevant info is in the link I posted above.. Some cars have an amp for each speaker, others have it on the right of the boot space

If you are replacing the speakers, you should run new/better speaker wiring anyway.

This will bypass the amp problem.
