Been getting a little smoke from the drivers side zorst now and then at idle I've also been loosing a fair bit of oil (about 1 litre every 400 miles

).

Changed the PCV valves in desperation :D, no luck :(. Still smoking.

The passenger side turbo front seal has gone, so it looks like new turbos.

I have to admit Turbo's are something I know nothing about.

I plan to keep the car as my daily driver and I don't want to open the engine up. So for now I would like a set of tubs that will run fine with stock injectors but also have another juice in them to run with 555's when I fit them.

As I said above I want to keep this as my Daily driver so I don't want too much lag.

What are my choices ?

hmm interesting, would you also be going for the Greg Dupree Split Flange Downpipes ?

yeah, you would have to as they are 5 bolt pattern, as opposed to standard 4 bolt

  • Author

I thought UK had 4 and JSepc had 5 ?.

Anyone got any comparrision charts for the JWT530BB's and the PE1420's ?

Stu, just gone through this entire process myself. There's an extremely useful thread with a conversation between myself and Smithy that covers lots of the questions. Sorry, but I haven't worked out how to post a link to it!

In the end though the big question is getting the fitting work guaranteed. So I went for turbotechnics Garrett stage 2 hybrids (about £1500 for the pair) cause I can get them fitted with some kind of warranty.

How much are you looking to spend Stuart?

Over £1500 before shipping and tax is a little much and then you will have to new flang pipes to make it fit.

I know very little about turbos too, but the generalisation is the JWT 500 Sport are the best up grade for people like yourself and me. YOu want the spool up to stay the same and it will give you a little more oomf!

nah 500's are hardly worth chaning for. I'm gonna go with something a little more so I can change the injectors at a later date and still have room to play.

PE1420's with LB5 down's or JWT530bb's with Greg Dupree's just can't decide on which ones.

  • Author

well the PE1420's are slightly cheaper but have slighly more lag and roughly the same power.

and take note of my earlier post!

you could spend a fortune on some nice new tubs, fit them and have them go bang within just a few thousand miles. unless you've arranged a proper warranty between the turbo supplier and the fitter, then both will blame the other and you'll be back to square one with a big hole in your pocket.

I did quite a bit of research and there are plenty of horror stories out there. I went for the safest route I could find, but It's your choice.

Contact Leon at Alunox for the downpipes, he has jigs for them and the quality will probably be better.

If it was me, I'd be looking at the 530bb's or 500's with decent manifolds. Should give stock lag with better top end.

and don't forget that ball bearings take longer to heat up and cool down.

..but the JWT ones look nice, how much are they!???

Is it true that 13 psi using 530's would be the same as 17psi on stock tubs ?.

If this is true then what's the minimum you can set the turbo's to run at ?.

I'm just thinking that 530's with stock injectors is going to give me constant det problems.

Not too sure, but probably not far from the truth - look at the extra power sport 500's give at 15psi. TBH I'd think any upgrade will unless you keep the boost down.

Was your 20g post just to wind Ian up then :nono:

Well he doesn't seem to have risen to it! Does he?

JWT has just releised 730bb turbos. At a resonable price!

too laggy for my liking

No Mate, It was just a little joke in general not directed at anyone, as soon as anyone bit I was going to play along with the yeah and I'm keeping a stock block too :D. :slap:

What psi graphs are you looking at it would be interesting to see.

Just stuff I've seen on TT net and 300zxclub.

There was a really good thread on TT net comparing dyno charts, but there was only one each for 530 / 1420's.
