ok, im pretty sure my prop shaft centre bearing needs replaced. There is a vibration from under the car which seems to be at its worst just below 3000rpm. It dissapears when i put the clutch down, so i assume its the prop shaft. So, how do i go about replacing the centre bearing? Where can i get one? Is it sensible to buy a second hand one? Would appreciate as much help as poss as i really dont know much about it.

Cheers

You should never really buy a 2nd hand bearings unless you are really strapped for cash.

Yeah, i thought that. Didnt really intend buying a second hand one anyway, just incase i couldnt find where to buy a new one.

Nissan is probably the only place you will be able to get them.

I think they are about £100

I think Mike Feeny @ MJP sells them, I seem to remember they are somewhere in the region of £150

If you have a worn univeral joint on the propshaft then that can also cause vibration that goes away when you de clutch.

As others say its most likely the centre bearing tho.

Youll find that the centre bearing itself is fine but that the rubber mount is harder than a witches t1t and perished and cracked leading to sag in the bearing. Mine was so bad that the bearing was hard down on the bottom of the mount. I got it running for a while temporarily by packing in some thick rubber under the bearing to support it. You carefully jack up the shaft then slip in the rubber strip under the bearing in the bellows part of the support. This lifts it up and makes all the difference.

off topic but scott im still waiting for your cheque if you want that centre trim panel

B***ocks! Forgot about that! Send the cheque soon.
