Folks,

When I start my TT from cold, on a coldish day, I've noticed that I get quite a lot more condensation coming out of the offside exhaust pipes than the nearside ones. The engine sounds fine and it seems to be as strong as ever. There's no significant blowing from the zorst. There's no blue smoke and the condensation fumes go away after a bit.

Should I be worried? Any ideas what might be wrong?

Let me know what you think,

Russ.

I have exactly the same thing from the rear drivers side exhaust more condensation on start up and i can smell a little more oil than the other side. When the cars hot all is well though????????????

As Far as I know (which is not very far) - info gleaned from this forum, the exhaust starts off with more pressure on one side, which evens out as the engine warms up.

Apparently it is not uncommon for steam to come from only one exhaust pipe at idle, this is because at these low RPM's there isn't enough pressure to force the exhaust gasses out of both pipes and as a result the gasses take the path of least resistance. At higher RPM's the pressure increases and the exhaust gasses should come out both pipes.

Now removing the CAT will have changed the back pressure in your exhaust , it'll be more free flowing due to reduced back pressure, and as a result I imagine that as long as it is only steam thats coming out of your exhaust you should have nothing to worry about*.

I may be wrong, in which case I'm sure somebody will correct me if I am.

*A lot of steam is also a sign that your HG may be about to go, check for low coolant levels and/or do a compression test if your worried about this.

From a post a while ago about the same thing.

Cool, thanks Rich, now my mind is at rest. A slap on the wrist for me for not consulting the search pages before.

Cheers,

Russ.

Correct!!

You will also notice that one side of the exhaust appears cooler than the other. No dramas, just the nature of the beast... :D

Cheers
