I think the standard front wheels on the Zed look naff because their an inch less wide than the rears and their set way too far into the wheel arches.

Anyone else agree ?

What i propose to do is get hold of a pair of rear wheels and put them on the front.

Is this advisable ?

Cant forsee any problems apart from rubbing inner wheel arch on full lock.

I think this would make the car look miles better.

I agree, thats exactly what I've done. ;)

Barrry.

thats a pretty good idea, would it work on an import? i no id need to get 4 new wheels as there all the thinner ones

bazza do you have any problems of tyres rubbing arches?

Not come across any problems at all. They will do until I can afford some 18"s or maybe 19"s.

Barry.

The tyres are narrower at the front for a reason, having 245 on the rear will cause you to tram line.

I think you will find the wheel will catch on some part of the suspention if you put a set of stock rears on the front. I havent tried it myself but I remember some one posting a few years ago his front wheels making a nasty noise when driving just after getting his tyres changed. He found that the put the rears on the front and it was catching on something.

And if Im not mistaken, putting rears on the front will not make them stick out an inch more it will make then stick in an inch more so they will look the same, they will catch and you will tram line so I cant see any advantage.

Forgot to mention, although I have the wider rims on the front, I still running 225 tyres on the front rims. Looks wise, the wider rim doesnt look much different.

thinking about it your absolutely right about that stuart

what is tram lining?

its when the wheels want to go farward all the time, Because they are so wide the car feels like they are on tracks and are unable to turn off the course you are going.

You cant turn, im not saying you cant turn or anything, but there is pull for the car to go dead straight all the time, and when you are driving straight the wheel is not as free to correct yourself as the car tends to want to go dead straight.

I think that is because the wider rear wheels are wider because they go back more and dont stick out more. So they wont look any different at all.

Aye thats good pot!

Dont try to surf the net and install windows onto a neighbours computer across the street at the same time

I reckon if you use rears with 245's then they will rub on the inside, try putting your hand between the suspension leg and the inside of the wheel, theres fook all room there, i reckon the only way to do it without the possibility of rubbage you would need to go for one with a different offset, or maybe use some spacers at your own risk!!!!

LOL,

Dont some of the guys here have much wider wheels/tyres on tho? Do they all tramline?

I changed my jap rears to uk and im sure they stick out more rather than in more.

Might try them on the front as a test!

I agree with TREVZ the rear wheels defininately look like they have an inch ?

more 'dish' on the outside or maybe the extra inch is on the inside but are machined differently on the outside ?

Could i not use some spacers on the front as i think the rear wheels definately look better.

Why does an extra 20 on the tyre size make the car 'tramline' ? its not very much really.

Could you not use 225 (standard) on the rears on the front then to stop it ?

Cant see the rim making it 'tramline'.

SPACERS MAKE YOUR WHEELS FALL OFF!!!!

Dont they shrimpy!!!!!

:D :D :D B19RKS, what you are sayin' is wrong mate !! I'm runnin 245 40 18's all round on 18 x 8.5 rims with 60mm spacers on the rear to fill out wide arch conversion and my car certainly doesn't Tram line. So you can run 8.5" rims on the FRONT with a 245 40 profile tyre with no problems at all with the handling of the car or any rubbing of the suspension leg or inner arches. :D :D :D

   Spacers certainly dont make your wheels fall off that is CRAP, if you dont believe me ask the man with the most posts ever on this forum MAC 1 he has been running large spacers on the rear of his car for 2 years now and he has a fairly respectable RWHP output too if that don't do it nothin' will. 4 wheels on his wagon and he's still rollin along. SO AGAIN YOU ARE EVEN MORE WRONG B19RKS. I thought the same thing before i did my research properly, believe me it's a myth. I have friends with Yankee 1400 BHP Drag Race cars that run with wheel spacers

The extra rim doesnt make you tram line the wider tyres do.

235 and you may start to feel the tramlining, 245 and you will feel it, 255 and it will definatly ramline.

What is the point of having narrower tyres on the back? That is where you need the extra traction. I cant think of any car which has wider tyres on the front than the rear, other than a seam roller and that isnt a tyre. The reason of putting UK spec wheels on an import is to have the wider tyres on the back for the extra traction. Narrower tyres on the front help against tramlining and also makes the steering more responsive.

Tatooman,

1: The fact you need spacers means the offset is not correct, rear wheels of a Z obviously have the correct offset and will stick in or out more than your wheels so you cant compaire that.

2: The wheels dropping off comment is a facetious remark about something which happened on here before you joined.

3: MAC does have large spacers on his car, but I dont remember seeing any dyno sheet for his car. (No offence MAC I havent) so we cant comment about his power ;)

4: 245 profile tyres? That is a huge tyre wall, that must handle shit

1. It is not the fact that i need spacers to correct the wrong offset of my car it quite simply that my car is 7" - 8" wider on the back end because of the Wide Arch Conversion. If I could have afforded to go out and spend another £2000 on a new set of wheels and tyres with a 12" rim on the back then I would have the spacers are not there to correct an incorrect offset technically they are there to push the whole wheel out generally same as MAC 1's out so it is nearly flush with the rear arch. 3. Like I said it a friend of mine has a 1200BHP Willys Coupe with 50 mm spacers on the rear of a reae wheel drive vehicle and that has never had a problem in 10 yrs, doesn't matter how much BHP MAC 1 is running SPACERS DO NOT FALL OFF 4. 245 40 18 tyres are fine on the FRONT of my car that is not a huge profile at all most people I think go for 35 or 40 on the front and still don't scrape suspension legs etc "IT DOES NOT HANDLE SHIT".

1: ****in' chill

2: 245/45/16 the 45 is the profile of the tyre, meaning 45% of the width. You said you had 245 profile tyres which makes the height of the tyre 245% the size of the width which makes them 600mm high, a over half a metre high tyre wall will make any car handle like shít. Again a facetious remark.

3: I said B19rks comment was a facetious remark on an inncodent which happened before you joined, I suggest you either search for the inncodent or ask some one.

4: What has the power of the vehicle got to do with spacers? You brought it up so perhaps you can tell me.

5: Look up facetious in the dictionary because you obviously dont know what it means.

:hyper: :hyper: ME ME :hyper: :hyper: I know :hyper:

It's also the shortest word in the English language with all the vowels in order :D :D other than AEIUO!! (defn: Noise made by Simon when thumped for being an 4rse :mac1: )

Certainly dont recall callin a tyre 1 metre high, whatever dude if you wanna carry on baiting me for an argument you are quite welcome, personally I have got better things to do with my time than being a scarcastic T**t. Don't even bother replying back to this one cus Im just not interested. oh and by the way I do know how tyre sizes and profiles work I don't need someone to explain.

Right lets clear this one up..........

SRRAE , I want to put some UK spec REAR wheels one the FRONT of my Z.

According to you my Z WILL tramline with the 245/45/16" tyres/REAR wheels fitted on the FRONT.

BUT if i put 225/45/or 50/16" tyres on those UK spec REAR wheels and then put them on the FRONT all should be OK........ UNLIKE THE LAST FEW POSTS IN THIS 'HEATED' DEBATE ! ! !   :nelson: :nelson:
