To get the front of the car up with a trolley jack where's best to lift car. I use the towing eye but it sort of offsets the car - I want it up evenly

or is it a case of one towing eye and one side of the car at a time?

People told me to use the standard jack to get it off the ground then put the trolley in under the cross member. But whenever I've had to leave the car anywhere and not been able to watch what they were doing they have jacked it up on the lip and gouged the bloody paint.

dunno about you guys but our Z is too low to get a trolley jack under, only option is to use the stock jack to lift it high enough to get the trolley jack under, I avoid jacking it up if I can because it makes my 2 tonne jack creak and groan like its going to explode, the Z is a lardy son of a bitch and i think i need a new beefier jack :p

LOL save some effort and just drive the car onto some wooden blocks first ;)

yeah that works too, can do an oil change with just wooden blocks quite easily.

Don't even need them m8 ;):D

I got stuck under a Z once :(

What i do is drive my car onto the kerb so only one side (2 wheels) are up on the kerb. Try and get the wheels right on the centre of the kerb for maximum height (higher the kerb the better, use a sloping kerb to get up) and then for a bit more clearence underneath put the Nissan jack on the front sill jacking point (kerb side)and raise the car enough to lift the suspension but no so far as the wheel comes of the ground.

You can tackle almost anything underneath now , theres loads of room and its pretty safe too.

Handy if you have'nt got a trolley jack.

Rich,

Never, Ever let anyone jack up your car without supervision!, the *******s that have jacked under the sill lip will have done more damage than first meets the eye, incorrect jacking usually causes lots of localised hairline cracking of paintwork where the metal has been bent slightly and this in itself is a cause of many a rotten sill if left unnoticed, thoroughly clean around any damage, remove any loose paint and/or corrosion that may have started and prime/paint as soon as possible or you'll have (or the next owner will have..) holey sills (Batman!) in a couple of years.

Also... a lot of people seem to think you can jack under the front of the box section running front to rear about a foot in from the sill.... well don't!! this is designed to have the car lowered onto along with the other side for axle stands, thus spreading the weight, not for jacking at one side (as nearly all tyre fitters will do if left to it!) as this will damage the box section.

Did Carina call the fire brigade?... :D

two planks one on top of each other about a foot long under each wheel, loads of room for the jack!
