TYRE ADVICE! Please help ASAP

I currently have 265/35/18's on the back 245/40/18's on the front.

The thing is i need to change the back tyres, at the monent they look really tight on the rim and dont protect the rim at all. Ive just measured my rear rim with some calipers and they measure about 10 1/4 inch (im guessing they are 10inch!).

Now they dont rub at the monent but at some point they have rubbed on the inner rear wheel arch (some how? - im guessing because of the four wheel steer in a drift? - by some pro in japan???!). Anyway i need some tyres,

Can i go to 285/35/18's? is it recommended?, is anyone doing this on 10inch wide rims? is their any chance of inner arch rubbing?

Thanks

Tom

All depends on the offset of the alloy, some pepole get rubbing with 265 while others have no problems with 285.

Tom, here is how to measure offset for your wheels:

Measure the inside width of the rims for wheel size and look for size stamped on rim somewhere.

Here is a chart for Toyo tyres and recommended wheel sizes:

FYI this is what I am running:

18x8.5J 35mm offset 245/40 tyres

18x9.5J 41mm offset 275/35 tyres

I would guess that they didnt rub in the wheel arch. Ive got the same size wheels and tyres and one of my wheel rims has a rub mark on the inner rim from when an outer Hicas arm bush had worn out causing the end of the arm to touch the rim under some condition. Maybe we have different offset. My tyres have never made contact with the inner arch. Maybe with duff shocks the travel might get there in extreme. The shocks might be getting soft. I followed an 90 NA recently and it had more float at the rear than a yank tank. I dont know how the guy driving it could put up with that.

Anyway going to 285s should be OK just remember the gearing will change and the speedo might under read. and if you really have trouble with contact to the inner arch it will get worse with the extra cm each side of tyre.

Best Tyre advice I ever had was this....

'put one at each corner!'

sorry, silly mood this afternoon!

...unless you have a company car from Trotter's Independent Trading...

No, still correct advice, one on each corner! :D :D :mac1:
