GB on SGP pulley set

What is the overall consensus of opinion about lightened under drive pulley and it's long-term effects on the crank etc? A good or bad thing?

quote from the aus site:

- the other argument against UD pulleys is the issue of harmonic balancing. The pulley is connected directly to the crank shaft, and as such any changes to the balance of the crank could result in bearing wear and catastrophic failures. There is no hard evidence for or against this argument, however some believe that in fact the crank pulley on the Z is not designed to be an harminc balancer and therefore changing it's weight is not a problem. The most convincing anectdotal evidence I can provide is that there are many, many Z's in the US who have been using a UD pulley for well over 100,000kms without incident.

Some people like to quote Kyle Pucket from SGP, who once held the record for the fastest street Z in America. When asked if UD pulleys do any damage in a recent debate his reply was "For the last time, no, no and NO!".

well mine has not broke yet Mike, and I have gotta say there is a real noticable difference in power unlike the exhaust and intake upgrade mods.

It makes sense as instead of more power at the peak, it frees up power throughout the rev range, so you feel it more.

Same as de-cat pipes don't give you much more power but because they help spool-up they make the car feel quicker.

Jaffa, spot-on. However, when I was researching the subject before getting my pulley, I saw a post on TT.net showing a dyno increase of 12rwhp

Dave,

I don't suppose you're around between L'pool and Manchester over the next couple of weeks so we could get together? I would love to talk to you and maybe see how your car runs?

Any chance??

Yeah that's the one Steve

Nigel - should be no problem m8 ;)

Dave

LOL the harmonic balancing has NOTHING to do with the weight - its actually a 2 piece design, with the inner connected to the outer by a rubber joint - thats what dampens the harmonics ;)

yeah, but it works by having a heavy weight on after the rubber joint - i think thats what there referring to, removal of the weight AFTER the rubber joint.

aaaaaanyway weve got 5 now for the GB, so were good to go!! :hyper:

anyone else that wants in on the GB better put your names down NOW!!

Have just checked the negative side of this - i have a n N/A,(less benefit) with a v.tight stereo(might affect this) so i aint gonna bother ! Could lose power

What does the stereo have to do with it!??

if you have massive amps, subs etc, then the underdrive effect may have some effect on alternator output for supplying them

TBH i cant see that really as most modern alternators are at max output by about 2000rpm or so anyway
