Hi all,

I'm planning to change my gearbox and diff oil, i've done a search and found that 75/90 is needed for the box, i'm planning to use Redline MT90 but i can't find what goes in the diff, the manual says API-GL5 but i've got no idea what that is.

Any help appreciated

Baz

same oil for the diff mate.

Good luck changing the oil in the diff though, it can be a little tricky :D

Thanks Mate,

That makes ordering it easier, i'll do that now.

I don't expect anything to be easy on these things anymore, what takes 1 hour on any other car takes 5 on the 300, it'll make for another exciting saturday anyway

Cheers

Baz

you may need a length of hose ;). You'll see wht I mean when you come to refill it. :D

did mine last year, it's a dirty job as the old diff oil really stank. Just take your time when re-filling, it's a slow process :)

Thanks for the info guys, should make life a little easier.

I don't think it is the same oil for the diff as the redline MT90, redline do a seperate diff oil for limited slips with viscous couplings!

Personally I would consider using the orginal Nissan oil as the viscous diff depends on a specific oil for it to work correctly and the diffs are fairly bomb proof anyway!

Nissan say

Manual transmission API GL-4*2

Differential gear API GL-5*2

I changed my diff oil last year, took hours for that thick oil to drain down through about 6 feet of small diameter tubing. But once its done, you know that its good for a couple of years.

Mark's right....

MAny gear oils say "NOT suitable for limited slip differentials" on the lables.

Make sure you get one that is suitable for LSDs or you could be in for a big repair bill later :slap:

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If you put the bottle of oil in a bucket of hot water for half hour or so first it pours much easier.

Robin

Robin,

I did heat it up a bit.......still took a while though, although I did not have the maximum diameter tubing possible.

John

Just wondering, did anyone notice a difference after changing diff or gearbox oil?

No.

JonJon,

I did not notice any difference after changing the diff oil, but I felt a bit of peice of mind know that it had been done.

John

I agree with Mac and John, I didn't but agree it's peice of mind.

Vijay

Thanks

Hi Guys,

The correct oils required for the gearbox and diff:-

Gearbox--Redline MT90

Diff --Redline 75w90 gear oil

I've got 3 litre of each to allow for a little spillage, just over £80 from Demon Tweeks inc post
