:hyper: I was just wondering what the top speed is that people have had out of their zx's I met a bloke at Doncaster who told me he'd had 170mph and i was abit scepticle so couldn't resist trying my car on an open straight. I managed 173mph but had to slow down as an upcoming roundabout was rapidly getting closer! So what top speed have u had?

I'll tell you in a week mate, im going to have a go at the ultimate speed challenge!

I just hope it stops

70mph, officer

only she would get away with saying that :p

173mph.....blimey!

Most are restricted to 155mph, i've done 155 in mine & it

scared the shit outta me!

You'd need a parachute to stop @ 170+!! ;)

Never been able to get there yet, always run out of road, best effort so far is 178 mph (Private Road of Corse) I must try harder next time, might even hit the NOS switch to compare.

Best i've seen was 160mph shown on speedo, on a lovely private strecth of road between Coventry and Leicester ;)

Rich :)

just over 150 out of mine, was a bit damp though and i decided it was time to ease off

was still pulling hard though

And you can buy one these days for about the price of a packet of fags and a pint !!!

HOW UNDERVALUED IS THE Z !!!!!

I Know the guy who owned my zed before me was clocked on a arranged top speed run at 189mph in mine dont know how accurate that was but with the gearing in a manwell you chould be able to get about 197 mph with the right amount of bhp.

As far as me about 175 on the M6....did i say M6 i mean my own private road!!

Mike

yup, 167mph for me too on a runway called the M69 which I belive is near coventry....;)

Shit my pants though as the car was all over the place!!

It as at this point I believe that aerodynamics come into play, and I have a standard front spolier!!! :(

I have to say i have a standard fron spoiler and at 170+mph it was fine, a little windy!! but totally stable, i think it comes more down to the suspension setup and tyres etc rather than aerodynamics....the missus wasnt too happy

I was having a game with a pork 928s4 on a private track (not racing on a public road, not me, no way officer..... )....

I got to 150 first and getting a bit further in front.....almost to 160 and the ZX was still pulling like a train......and......fekking speed limiter (UK car)

Porker passed a few seconds later, those things aren't limited and can top 170

The car felt tight and rock steady  so I kept a steady 150 for the next few miles (which didn't take long to clock up  )

I have been tempted to have the limiter removed (I reckon I'd had had the porker, then :xxx: ) but my conscience (read "Wife" ) says no for the sake of my licence. I know I'd just have to see what it could do :x:

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

LMAO!! like its gonna make much difference if you get clocked doing "only" 155 mph!!

Remember that speedos are indicators and indicators indicate. Its highly unlikely you were doing anything like 173. Unless yours is chipped delimited, and running at least 14psi. In fact at a true limited 155 stock its likely a standard zed speedo will show upwards of 165 just with typical error. Checked mine with a GPS and even though with 18" wheels and 265s it should be under reading by about 2.5% it over reads by about 4 mph at 70.

Anyway it was still bl**dy fast and enough to have you locked up;)

Just a thought, but perhaps the moderators should move this thread to the members section..... :x:

.......all this talk of driving at 150mph+....... :nelson:

Someone reading might think we are doing this sort of thing on public roads

That's quite an error margin, but one which would be expected as the cars age and the speedo components deteriorate. They were supposedly quite accurate when these cars were new, unlike most normal cars (fords & vauxhalls over-read by as much as 8mph at true 70).

I did a check on mine last year too, speedo showed only just over 70 (about 71-ish) at true 70mph. Although the margin of error would be higher as speed increases, I would think.

Richard ;)

Fastest i've been is just over 170 still pulling too, but was high in the revs, like 6k backend was feeling very light and a bit floaty.

Thought I would give this a try being as I don't know if my car has the restriction. I got 177mph out of her (on my private track) but bottled out going any faster, still pulling well and i'm sure it will do 185 befor hitting the rev restrictor. I'm very impressed by her performance, not bad for a car I payed 5 and a half grand for!

Only had 145 out of mine three up so far racing an M3, I nearly soiled me self when the car started bottoming out on the road

At last years top speed challenge I wangled a measured 153 mph, the speedo was reading just over 160. (That was with a knackered engine) :( But at least at that speed I new my speedo was out by roughly 10mph, easy to work out.

Prior to that I have had 180* which came up pretty easily.

Recently with new engine, I got just over 170* the car was still pulling but I had spent enough time on full boost, so let off the gas.

Need to sort my top end breathing out, to get back to the magic 180* again. Think also as I am running low compression pistons on the same boost, I am therefore making less power than before.

Sure there must be a few 200+ zeds about.

*MPH indicated on speedo.

Anyone on here been jailed yet for goin that fookin fast?

You can't get jailed for going that fast on a private test track.
