I need to take my Zed from London over to Manchester.

I dont really wanna drive it as it has a few problems from bursting hoses to a timing belt which needs doing!!!

Has any1 ever used the AA and asked them to recover a vehicle and drop it to a destination of your choice even it is all the way up to Manchester.

What did you exactly do!!!

As i live in West London and the car is in East London, i wanna pick it up from there and take it direct to Manchester. Would the AA refuse to recover me and take me to Manchester due to the distance. I thought of making the excuse it needs specialist attention!!!

Any Ideas Guys

Hi Fas

If you have relay cover they take you anywhere you want to go :) . However, I think that is only if the car can't be driven after a breakdown and they can't fix it at the roadside :( .

If the car starts and drives they won't even come out unless it stops.....

Now if a part became disconnected ;) and the car wouldn't start, you would call the AA. The patrolman might not be able to locate the part that became disconnected (as these Zeds are complex beasts  ), then he would have to call a relay truck to take you wherever......... :p

Not that I'm suggesting you try anything dishonest....... ;)

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think you'd need to be on the M1 and a way north. The AA is not a transport service and they probably query why you are not recovered to your home address. If they suspect fraudlent use then they have the right to charge you for the transport and boy is it expensive.

Still got to be worth a go.

So what kind of a part would you say might just get disconnected then mate!!! :D

What if the car broke down on a saturday and i decided after i called the AA out and they cant get it started, i wanted it to be transported on the sunday morning , as i would like to go with the vehicle. Do you reckon they would be able to do that for me!!!

Obviously you've never done this before :D

Cheers

Then again dont we have the choice of where we want the car to go if it is recovered!!!

I could say i want the car repaired and that it needs specialist attention as its a sports car!!!

The customer is always right, or am i gonna get myself inot trouble!!!

I have roadside relay so they cant exactly say anything to me!!!

Relay – if we can't arrange a prompt repair, we'll transport you, your car and up to seven passengers home, or to any mainland destination

you deffo won't break down on a saturday and get them to transport

you on a sunday m8, as above the safest thing is to be on the motorway

even if its the start of it, sat in aside street in london, theres no rush to get you shifted, on the motorway they HAVE TO move you

The cars been sitting in a garage for a long time, it does not seem to turn over.

SMW1 mentioned it just needs a bit of tinkering and it should start up as its been sitting there for to long!!! Id rather not start it and drive as it needs work to be done on it!!!

Im in no rush for them to recover me in a hurry, ill get the car out of the garage probably get a few guys to push me half way down the street. Then call the AA and say my cars gone dead!!! If they take 3 hours to get a recovery truck to me i wont be to bothered. Im gonna have to just sort it out with the person i drop it off to if i can drop it on the saturday and not the sunday!!!

If im on a normal London Road they cant refuse to take me to manchester can they, thats what i wanna know!!!

Fas

I reckon the accidental fitting of a faulty PTU should do the trick ! ;)

no they have to take you, if you were onroute to m/c as long as your over 1/4 mile from home

as Andyp says, make sure they don't get the car running

when you say the car has been in a garage some time, does that mean its not t+t ?? as technically they have a get out there, BUT i cant see an A.A.

bloke asking for evidence of mot, but if the car looks like it has been parked up for some time, and no tax in the window

Hi Fas,

I broke down the other sie of Birmingham and called the AA out. The guy rang for a flatbed which arrived but when he rang his office they said that I had to take it to a local company. I said that my mechanic is London and that's where they had to take it, which they did in the end. The driver told me that they were on a big money saving venture and would try that with everyone but if you insist, they have no choice!

Good suggestion by AndyP ;)

Ok whos got a faulty PTU they can lend me, also how big of a job is it to change!!!

Billynomates wat did you mean by t+t (tax & tested or something else)

The cars got a MOT, im gonna go get the Road Tax on friday!!!

Also make sure the car is not dirty, but its got bits of fibreglass bodykit stuck on it and holes everywhere. He's gonna have a fair idea that its come out of a garage!!!

But Vij, dont worry i wont give in ill keep at him!!!

Fas

There must be a load of dead PTU's around and it's only a 5 minute job to change one.

Guys this is all helpful but youre chatting to some1 who cant do anything

Wheres Stuart gone (SMW1)

Ill ask him to help me!!!

Cheers

Fas

you could take out the ignition coil relay, it'll turn over but nothing will happen

doubt they'd check for a problem there and easy to take out

  • Author

STUART!!!

Ur gonna come round on saturday arent you to help me out!!!!

Fas :p ;)

I reckon the AA would check the 'Ignition relay' and obvious stuff like that but swapping in a dead PTU like ANDYP says is probably the best option and its only three bolts and a elec connection to remove.

Has any1 got a dead PTU laying about near the london area

Any1 please

Fas

Fas, leave it with me mate, I'll sort it.

I'll be around friday afternoon or Saturday, just give me a bell and tell me when you need me to f**k your car up for you ;) :D (I'm good at that, it's just the fixing bit I have problems with :D)
