Hi,

With Fas's mates Z being nicked on the weekend and someone trying to nick my mates just before Christmas, I was wondering a couple of things.

1. How come scum can get around Thatcham fitted alarms? I thought the point of these were to cut off various things in the car to stop it being started. How the hell to they trace wires etc in a Z engine bay to be able to start the car??

2.What can be done to beef up our Z security? Is there any cut off points that can be wired up to extra swiches?

3. Can Bob or anyone else in the know suggest/supply anything out there to stop scum taking what doesn't belong to them?

Well I think I have at least one answer for you....

1. Thatcham approved means it can withstand an attack for a certain amount of time and not indeffinately. If someone wants to nick a car there is no real way to stop them totally.

2. A really good produst I've seen is aclled the Auto tazer (sp?). It's one of these steering wheel lock bars and when armed has 50,000 volts going through which arc across it when tampered with. IIRC they were less than £100.00 as well. Fry the scum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :xxx:

3. Might be worthwile to stop them putting a extra switch in the ignition system somewhere (as well as the alarm-immobiliser) so it has to be on to allow the ignition to work. Mount it somewhere awkward to find but easy to reach if you know where it is (e.g. spare wheel well/boot area or under seats).

You could take the handles off the door and iuse a TVR style push switch & solenoid setup to open the doors. Imagine walking up to a car and it not having any door handles inside or out!?

But ultimately as I've already said if they want it bad enough they'll have it away.

How about Clifford Blackjax. This means you have to put a code in using a pushbutton inside the car, the code is set by the driver. The car will not run without the code being entered, should you be hijacked then when the door is opened and closed with the engine running, 30 secs later the car will show brake lights then come to a stall once it has reached a safe speed.

The siren will then sound and the indicators flash, these are standalone units and don`t require an additional alarm to work.

Any interest and i will do group buys if cars can be in one location, looking at doing 4 a day at a cost of £175.00

The theves are alway one step in front. That is why alarms become so complex. If alarms 5 years ago where impossible to beat, we wouldnt have more upto date ones like we have now. I am sure that in another 5 years alarms will be a lot more complex now. Its not a case of staying in front of the thieves its keeping up with them.

Be handy if someone nicked mine. In 20 years I've never had a car nicked or evan damaged I must have lived in the quietest parts of the world ever invented.

Vijay, you can slow them down by fitting the best security available, but at the end of the day if the big boys want it THEY WILL TAKE IT! no matter what IMHO.

I totally agree that if they want it they WILL get it but it's just taking a much precaution as possible.

I agree. That is why I have taken every precaution I can. I am confident that my car wont be stolen or if it does, it will take them a very long time to do so. I mean they have to put the engine in for starters ;)

One thing i have done to my bangers in the past and my ZX (bangers are the cars most little scroats like to steal at the end of the day, easy to break into as their old) is to simply take the steering wheel off.

Its not going anywhere with no steering wheel ! Obviously this is not practical if you use your ZX or whatever a lot , however if your planning a lay up (like mine at the moment) or leaving it in a dodgy area while you go round to your mates or whatever , its something i think of doing.

The ZX steering wheel is dead easy to remove. I got taking my 'Micra' steering wheel off down to a fine art when my door locks were chewed ! I could do it in seconds ! (no horn button on though)

You may be thinking "well if the cars being 'laid up' for fair amount of time" (a month or more) "then the battery would be flat"...... but it does'nt stop the f###### scroats from trying to break into it thinking it will probably start if they hack at the wiring and so on. If theres no steering wheel on it then hopefully they will walk away a find another easier target .....probably/hopefully a Vauxhall nova or some shite ! ! :xxx:

invest in a snap on steering wheel , when ever you park it up take the steering wheel off it can be done in seconds , problem is though they are all a bit "Max Power" looking

i like the sound of the Auto Tazer , fry the theiving t**** or buy a starving doberman

and keep it in the car when your not

I have a Clifford Concept 600 G4 with Blackjax fitted. As well as being a danm good fecking alarm, each and every time a door is opened you have to put in a pin code. The code cannot be "picked" or scanned by a computer. If you have the misfortune to have your car "jacked" while you sit at the lights then you'll find it about 1/4 mile down the road, with all sirens wailing and the ignition having cut-out. Providing the scum hasn't taken to bashing up your car before legging it, you should be able to get back in, enter your pin code and awaaay!!

However, as with my mates Skyline they just winched it slowly aboard a pick-up and away it went. He never seen it again. So even with all his security, if they REALLY want it, they WILL have it!!!

Reading a report in Banzai magazine, they said there is an increase in the number of High Spec Sportcars being stolen for the Saudi Arabian market amongst other eastern countries.

this thread scares me i suppose as a woman i fell slightly more vunerable the scumbags have already tried to get the car twice but wre seen and disturbed it has a good cat 1 alarm and i always have a big chain and padlock on this is the only downside to owning a 300 for me even though its insured you cant just go out and replace it easily, the black jak is interesting must enquire about prices over here, as you say if they want it bad enough they will get it heard of a guy over here they broke into his house stuck a sawn off in his face and said give us the keys a 300zx he got it back 3 weeks later perfect it had been used on the border for smuggling

Theres a mechanic, who i know who used to be a ex-car thief in the 1990's.

Iv talked to him about the ways a thief would try and nick your car!!!

On steering wheels locks, he said that most thieves know how to get them off - meaning it will just slow them down but they will take it off!!!

On the gear stick lock, the handbrake is yanked off and presto its off!!!

He goes one way is, to have a custom fitted immobiliser which is connected directly to the ECU or fuel line!!!

But then again your car can be towed.

Tracker iv heard is useless now, as small signal blockers can be easily bought!!!

If you've got a car that stands out, people are gonna notice it and if its taken, it will be mostly likely be on order for specific parts!!!

He recommended just fitting a Cat 1 alarm with anti code grabbing, and atleast 2 seperate immobilisers. That will deter the would-be thieves.

The big boys as MAC says will take it no matter what!!!

Really? So much for choping the hands off theives over there then

Really? So much for choping the hands off theives over there then.

Yeah but the scum over there that want these cars may be stinkingly rich 'kings' and 'princes' and they would probably bribe the authoritys so they dont get caught ! :nelson: :slap:

I had a motorbike (a new R1) stolen a few years back.

They broke into my house Saturday night to find the keys but I had them and was out.

They came back on Sunday at midnight and knocked on the door with a baseball bat and a knife and gave me a bit of a doing over.

When they were in court being sentenced ( ) I found out they had a gun on them at the time too.

About the best thing I can think of to stop it happening again is a can of deodorant and a lighter. Not much will take that in the face at fairly short range. But if the gun is real, there's no arging with that really.

And what if I'm not in and my girlfriend is?

It's sad, but I'd rather they took the car. Yes I have a decent alarm and a physical lock but I wouldn't want anyone (or their girlfriend) to go through what I did. It was a long way from nice.

The beauty of a Clifford Concept 600 G4 is that you can have the key to the car but unless you punch in the code, the car will cut out and you SHOULD get your car back.

BUT!!!! and it's a big but, you have the misfortune to fall foul of a proper organised gang who are "tooled-up" to the nines, wave goodbye to your pride and joy forvever!! They WILL take your car..........
