Snooper Legality?

Just got my Snooper S5 from the legendary Bob at S&S Chester.

Straight question:

What will happen to me if Inspector Chisholm of the Willesden Police Squad catches me using it??

LOL

Will they put me in Crown Court on a charge of disrupting the Airways, Byways, Highways and bang me in Strangeways?

Is it a serious offence using Radar/Gatso detectors and Laser Diffusers?

Keep your instructions with you. It explains in there that it is no longer an offence (it actually never was just the roZZers told people it was) to use one. Something to do with the wireless and telegraphy act of 1949 blah blah blah. Do not let any copper try to confiscate it as some do not know about the new court ruling.

Using a radar detector is not Illegal as far as I know. In 1998 the courts ruled that radar detector does not block the radio waves of the Gatso/Radar. It can not also be classed as listening to radio information because the radio waves carry no information.

They try to use a law from 1945 (Telegraph/Telecommuncations Law) to prove that Radars are illegal. But this law only applys to converational signals, at it is ruled that 2 enaminate objects (Gatso/Radar and the Car) can not have a conversation.

However radar Jammers is something different

Damit Paul you beat me to it

But I have a link. So Nerrrrr :P http://www.beldirect.co.uk/law.htm

I used to have an early detector and was told that it was not illegal to have, or to use one, however it is illegal to act on the information it provides to perverse the course of justice. I believe this is still the case but correct me if I am wrong.

Tim

Cant see how you are perversing the course of justice, because no law has been broken for you to be perverse, providng you drive correctly.

Using a radar detector to speed and slow down near gatso is the wrong use, and I hope those people get caught before something terrible happens.

Stuart

Not wanting to provoke anyone... But in that case, what's the point of owning one? ....

(not that I speed through towns etc, but motorways? take the M25 for example..)

Dont be over confident Aaron. These radars cant detect EVERY camera.

And it depends on what you do when you say you are speeding. I am not totally inocent. I do about 34ish on normal roads, I love pissing on other cars at light but I dont go over 40 in a 30 zone when I do this. I have seen too many squished people to do extreme speeds on the wrong road.

Radars should be used to allow you to correct your speed when a radar is coming up, not fly down a road slam the brakes on before a gatso and then speed off once you go past it. That is the argument the police are using to try get the them banded. While the industry is saying it is an audio-able

warning to accident blackspots. Because that is the only place gatsos are placed according to the police.

If I feel that a speed limit is artificially low and there is a speed camera there, I'll simply brake before the camera and resume my previous speed afterwards. What do they expect?

I bought a detector to try and avoid having to brake at the last second when I'm in areas I don't know, e.g. driving along a straight road in Dorset between 2 fields with no hedges by the road, excellent visibility, but a 40mph limit for some inexplicable reason. The speed camera was hidden behind the only signpost for miles...

Would never condone driving like Mr R Sole and anybody caught in a built up area deserves it. Everybodies gripe is the inconsistency in the rules. Getting nicked on an empty motorway on sunny Sunday morning with 2 cars passing you at the time and Mr P saying your car crossed the line when we pressed the button sonny. Yeah the other guys were going much faster but then you were all speeding were'nt you!

Vascar! undetectable unless you spot them up a slip road and pervert the course of justice by slowing down to stuff the average theyre clocking you on.

Ive seen pillocks doing way way over the ton on motorways seeming to always get away with it. I think I behave rather well but now my ticket is clean again I'd like to keep it that way.

Stay responsible out there Y'all
