have you tried other discs? It could be the disc.

What software are you using? Some may need an update to work with the latest CD Writers

hi, the disks are brand new and ive tried a load of other makes.

sounds buggered mate, this can happen being able to read but not write, if your on xp try the built in burning software, ie drag and drop files

yeah i do have xp

and it still dont work

just cd!!

go to the cd manufacturers website & see if there is a firmware update.

otherwise - you sure you've not been sold a CDRom drive????

To make sure that the CD-R drive or the CD-RW drive is recognized as a recordable drive, make sure that the Recording tab appears in the CD drive properties:

Click Start, and then click My Computer.

Right-click the CD-R or the CD-RW drive, click Properties, and then look for the Recording tab.

If it is not there, you will need to follow this guide... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;316529
