93 UK TT

White smoke all the time from both exausts, I thought it might be condensation but it still smokes even when after half hour drive this has now been like this for about 2months but now its getting warmer (a bit) and very few cars on the road are smoking.

No oil in water or oil leak/loss but if i were to do a compression test would this identify a cylinder heas gasket problem??

I really cant see it being a turbo problem due to the way i have been driving recently (but u never know)

recent full service inc pvc valves fuel regulator & dampener

car drives as it should

??

if you have read this far your input would be appreciated ;)

cheers

a compression test would not really tell you if

the head gasket is gone, but it should show any "noticable" difference

between cylinders, also You will not see the oil in water symptom if the gasket is just broken between two adjacent cylinders, not really an expert on tt, but best to start at the cheapest option first i guess

do you have coolant loss??

ย

a compression test would be a start, but a cylinder leakage test would be better

well if the head gasket had blown, you would expect some sort of coolant loss - thats what you thought the white smoke was!!

ย

a cylinder leakage test is a very useful diagnostic tool.

ย

bring the cylinder up to TDC on the compression stroke, the cyl leakage tester then goes in the spark plug hole & the cyl is pressurised with comressed air (CL tester plugd into a compressor!), the "leakage" of air is then measured.

ย

air coming out of the exhausts indicates exhaust valves not seating, out of the TB's is inlet valves

ย

excessive pressure from the oil filler cap is rings/bores (slight blow by is normal)

ย

& finally, if you get bubbles in the coolant, or the coolant gets dumped all over your feet - head gasket failure!!
