Ok i know it would be far easier to buy a TT but its more fun to experiment and do something different! plus the condition of my NA is to good to let go.

So does anyone know much about supercharging a ZX or if its been done before? I have seen those electric superchargers on ebay before but am not sure how good they would be.

I would be gratefull for any info

Cheers

You are better asking on TT.net or something as I am sure some one on there has done it.

it has been done before, but you'll loose the aircon and it needs a lot of custom piping.

Better is to make it a twinturbo, which is what I did as an experiment with my NA last year

It's not easy, but it works well and you'll end up with a VERY fast car.

I'm currently running 0.8bar of boost on a stock NA engine (with 10.5:1 compression) for over a year, using stock auto TT turbos, intercoolers, injectors, oilpan, a customized ECU and some other small bits of a wrecked TT that I bought.

email me if you want more details.

Nice idea in theory but i think it would cost thousands

One word..... NITROUS OXIDE

Oh, that's two words. But you can get any increase in bhp (within reason) for about £1000.

NITROUS OXIDE is tempting but i am after something a bit longer lasting a safer that i can use for every day driving.

Maybe i will just have to start looking for a mint TT

Maybe you should start with a hoop and stick and work your way up gradually!!

Nah, what am I saying , just buy a TT and have done with it!

I once saw a wright up on a 750 BHP 300 in the states..

It was a twin supercharged N/A!!!!

Also seen one with the set up from a Mrec Kompresser, still with it's AC.

cheers guys i will do a bit of research and see what happens

Can't see why you have to lose the AC. If you look in the front of an NA engine there are large spaces where the TT turbos and intercoolers normally go.

Westy - please keep me informed of progress. I am very keen to sc my 1990 300zx Jspec NA. I have just contacted Fitz at Top Boss Performance. He is going to phone me back, so I'll post the outcome on this board.

For some reason I don't seem to have private message or e-mail privileges.

Anyway, as you have offered, please can you let me know the details of upgrading a NA to TT. I have a 1990 300zx Jspec NA and access to a wreck with a TT engine. Is it possible just to lift the TT bits that I don't have instead of replacing the whole engine?

Regards,

Rory

westy

some more information on what to change when twinturbocharging a NA.

from the top of my head these are the things you need:

left + right turbo

left + right TT exhaust manifold

left + right turbo downpipe (jspec), or TT precats + maincats

TT radiator

TT oilpan

TT injectors

TT intercoolers + piping

TT bumper (or other bumper with intercooler vents)

TT recirc. valves (or aftermarket blowoff valves)

electronic boostcontroller and custom chip/ECU.

Under no circumstances use boostjets or a manual/mechanical boostcontroller in this setup.

I also used a TT oilfilterbracket + TT oilcooler and piping, but I recently installed an oiltemp gauge and I'm seeing the oil stays below 70 degr. Celcius most of the time, so you might not need this hardware.

OK - spoke to Fitz at Top Boss. He says supercharging a 300zx is no problem and he's done it before. He also didn't shoot down my idea of twin superchargers, but said he would need to see photos of my car and the space available.

Last time he did it he used a small Eaton sc, the same that is apparently used in the Mercedes SLK. He said the result was good.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that it will cost £3000 to £3500 and will take about a month to do.

Still toying with the idea, particularly if twins can be put in, buy may also need to consider Eric's idea of turning the stock NA into a turbo by adding bits off a TT.

I would be very interested to see the 300zx that Top Boss supercharged. Has anyone seen this car or have any photo's?
