Is there any way to 'turn off' or remove the lock that prevents the ignition key from being withdrawn until the engine stops? I've got an HKS timer and it really annoys me that I have to sit for 4 minutes in the car until I can remove the keys. When I do leave it running I always need to stay within sprinting distance just in case someone walks past! It seems to defeat the object of having a timer really...

I have a timer and I can take my keys out. Can't see how a timer would effect your barrel mechanically??

Think something might be wrong there - as you say, otherwise whats the point of the timer?

Its not the timer - it's the barrel itself. There's obviously some electronic connection that turns off a switch in the barrel when the engine turns off, therefore allowing me to withdraw the keys. Perhaps it's a jap spec thing????

What a complete **** :( I'll have a look at the manual see what I can work out...

Mine is J spec.

ok, now I'm confused. Does yours have a small button next to the key slot that you have to press to withdraw the key? Mine does, and when the engine turns off, I can feel the 'key lock' unlocking through this button...does that help??

Thanks guys.

Have a look at this old thread and see the bit Jeff TT posted - http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=3456&highlight=barrel

Thanks Vijay - I thought it might be something like that. I'll have a play over the weekend.

Thanks again all.
