I took Z out yesterday & I have WET CARPETS!

I have read enough, I think, to know this means heater matrix knackered!

I know afew of you have changed it or had it done.

My question is how long is the job to do, where's the best place for replacement part? TT auto.

Any help welcome

CheersTrev!

I have looked at the matrix bit in the manual they say it's a PITA!

Need to get a bit of hose to bypass it at the moment.

I know James & one or two others have had matrix probs.

Think the job is a weekend Fri-Sun jobby!

Just wondering best place to order a matrix from.

Any advice over changing this would help if you have done the job. Anyone?

Arthur the cheapest place to get one is Courtesy in the US less than £100 delivered , the only downside is that you will have to use your existing heater matrix metal pipes which to be honest makes life easier because you leave them in. I have done two now and the easiest way imho is to remove the dash , which is much easier than you think providing you keep all the nuts and bolts with the parts that you take off , you should be able to do the job in a couple of days , no problem.

Hi Ryan

I picked your thread up when I did a search about the matrix.

I did one a couple of years back on my Passat & had to take the dash off that.

Thanx for the info on Courtesy will contact them.

Rich I did notice the remark on a thread about the clutch pedal on a manwell!

So an auto has one advantage over manwell! Not intending to start another auto/manual debate!!

Arthur

I was able to fix mine with the addition of an additive to the coolant

Its called Novastop. Its about £10.

Worked for me

Additives only usually work short term, and tbh I really would not think about putting something along the lines of radweld in your water system

The auto is a little easier Arthur but the manwell peddle only takes an additional 20 mins to remove so its not that much hassle , Have a go mate if you get stuck , give me a shout and I will come over and give you a hand.

Hi Ryan

Thanx for the advice & offer of help if needed.

I would not consider putting something like radweld in my Z!

Cannot start until Wednesday as Z is in garage getting brake master cylinder done!

I've heard the Matrix for the US car will be different so I bought mine for just over £200 from my local Nissan Dealer. Did the job myself last November. I'm not a mechanic and it is a scary job to do but I did mine myself and was pleased I saved myself so much money. It's all working fine now and I'm really happy with the result. My only advise is take your time and don't give up. A couple of times I thought I was never going to finish it or I'll forget how it all goes back together. I first tried to follow the instructions from the Aussie site who rekon you can do it without removing the dash, but I found it easier to remove the dash. You have to dismantle the new matrix to do it the Aussie way and I didn't fancy damaging a new one!!

Just keep at it and good luck!!

Hi Dom, Thanx for that info.

I will as Ryan suggests, like yourself & take the dash off!

Funny about you saying (never going to finish it) I thought that with my Passat dash off!

Funny also about doing one job on my Z! then another! & another! & another!! ect!!!

Got a rear spoiler coming tomorrow, Z in garage, brake master cylinder being sorted today!

Got a quote for matrix £40 less than £200 Dom. Awaiting local rad firm who said if I bring old one in they can make identical one, is it ALL metal or part plastic?

Also awaiting Courtesy in US for quote to. Sorry for long thread :)

Got the dash off!

In the middle I have a plastic box with flaps on.

How do I get this off to get to the H/matrix? Help Pease(Ryan, Dom, anyone!)

Will be back on line in 1 hour time now 3.30pm Sun.Thanx

Arthur

This was difficult. As you can see it links to the fan assembly on the passenger side. Make sure all of the screws have been removed along the bottom of the passenger's footwell. Rather than remove all the vents and bits from the passenger side I used brute force to remove it!! May need a helping hand flexing the plastic. Putting it back is harder!!!

Almost there......best of luck!
