Since fitting my boost controller I sometimes hear a spooky WHOOOOOOOOO noise under boost (no laughing!!)

Seems to do it even with the boost down at about 11/12psi and it doesn't sound like detonation from the descriptions i've heard from you guys.

Any ideas?

Could it be an air leak somewhere although it doesn't seem to lose power?

Chris,

This is the 'Spool Up Spook', he lives in your turbo spools and waits for you to have a boost controller fitted so he can come out and play under your bonnet.

Hope this helps.

Which one of you is the guilty janitor and who is Shaggy the flare wearing chicken?

LOL

Seriously though the sound isn't like a turbo swish noise, more like an owl or something!

sir, you have a boostleak..

please step out of the vehicle and go find it ! wink.gif

I've stepped out but no luck. I've tried it over and over but everytime I stop and get out of the Z the boost falls off and I can't see anything wrong! LOL

ok, try this:

have someone drive your car with full boost, while you're running next to it listening for the boostleak. biggrin.gif

seriously, a "whooosh" sound usually is a BIG leak and it shouldn't be hard to find.

The big rubber hoses in the enginebay are notorious for leaking (usually around the clamps) or check the hoses that connect to the intercoolers.

I'm putting money on the boost hoses - given Chris's other post about having a big split in one of the boost hoses biggrin.gif

A boost leak???

My god, Boost can leak.

As if Zed owners dont have enuff problems without bloody leaky boost valves and hesitating overhead manifold sprockets.

I'm going outside to see if I can see a puddle of this 'boost' stuff all over my driveway tsk!

Is it flammable?

Even worse, boost cannot be replaced! Once it's gone it's gone...

Lymon.

What a ridiculous idea to run along side a moving car.

Everyone knows you should lie on the windscreen and hold onto the wipers whilst pressing your ear to the bonnet. Its much easier biggrin.gif

No you are all wrong.

After having more than a few beers I have worked it out. (for auto Z's only)

1, Stop in middle lane of motorway.

2, Put the car in drive.

3, Jump under the bonnet as it starts to roll.

4, Pull throttle cable to reach maximum boost.

5, Locate leak and tighten or replace offending pipe.

6, Whilst under bonnet check fluid levels and change oil and filter if necessary.

7, Find some way of stopping 185mph missile without use of brakes, gears or stearing.

Sorted!
