Why would my steering wheel be slowly moving out of true position? (It's an after market momo).

Featured Replies

Unlikely, unless your wheel alignment is very slowly moving out of true......

Do you have the correct boss, ie with the HICAS sensors, for your after market 'wheel? If not the HICAS will not function properly, so the rear wheels may not be in the correct position owing to no signal being received.

Also I believe the 'wheel must be set 'straight' again to ensure the HICAS receives the correct signal.

Are the tyres old and unevenly worn?

does the car go to one side if u let go of the wheel?

ie. if the tyres are pulling to the right, youre doing left hand down to go straight.

Have you got poly bushes?

Thanks for the replies. The car, left to its on devices, wants to veer to the left slightly now. I have the steering wheel about 5 degrees to right to hold a straight line. This was dead straight 3 months ago. The tyres are 4 months old and the pressures are checked weekly - fine. My HICAS warning light comes on after 20 miles or so. I believe to problem is with the steering alignment and not just the steering wheel moving. How would the steering alignment move?

Hi ZBOB

as the HICAS light comes on, I refer you to my earlier reply regarding the steering wheel boss. Did you get one with the HICAS sensors? (They cost around £100, not the normal £30 ish ones that you get with aftermatket 'wheels for ordinary cars)

No idea. Some bloke in Japan fitted it ....

OK 2 questions. Where would I get a wheel boss with HICAS sensors if I needed it? I steering wheel end is OK, why would the steering alignment be slowly moving left?

I bought mine from Mike Feeney - 01277-374201.

Vijay

What difference does it make - I have a replacement wheel (fitted when I bought the car - how can I tell if it had a hicas boss?)
