I'll tell you IF you subscribe :D Naughty boy! 289 posts tut tut LMAO

Also is there any way of making a DV louder? I have 2 Turbo XS I got from a trader here and they sound ok - but due to loud exhaust you can barely hear them.. . . ..

They look like recirc's as it looks like a flange you can put on a pipe - because of this wide opening all the air is let out too quickly hence a whoosh sound rather than a pchooo sound (if you get my meaning :) )

Can I put a pipe on each outlet that narrows the output out to get it louder or will this damage anything?

Cheers

Sounds like you've got the same setup as Shahid. He's got recircs acting as atmospherics. Not loud at all but seem to do the job. I doubt whether you can change the outlet that easily really. I've got a pair of baileys - I know they're not jap, but they sound fantastic - a real crack followed by a loud woosh. I've upset many old people at bus stops with those! Not bad for £85 each.

sounds same then, it just I got a baileys twin piston DV on my Supra and this has exactly the same workings as the TURBO XS. Just a smaller outlet, I thought If I could fit a rubber pipe and reduce opening down it may give me more sound.

On the same subject how come autos dont let their boost go between changes? Is it something that we could get aq manual to do to stop losing precious boost

Give it a try mate - you never know what's possible! I'll be interested to see if it works. Don't know about the Auto - I've never driven one!

No chance with an auto - the throttle bodies need to close for the DV to work ;) Autos are flat to the floor as you accelerate....

Andy, what I meant was basically how come an auto doesnt lose boost in between changes. I presume the throttle bodies stay wide open? but something kills the revs quickly? hence no screaming between quick gearchanges.. I was just wondering if there was any way of doing the same to a manual so you dont lose boost between changes.

you dont lose boost because you dont take your foot off the gas. You can full throttle shift your manual if you like but dont expect it to thank you for it :p

Ok time to explain the differences:

Manual, due to its design, must have the drive removed before gear change or it won't engage

Auto, does things differently and with the torque converter, changes gear without removing drive to the box. It can do this due to the torque convertor.

If you remove the load from the engine with your foot hard down, it will just rev its nuts off. However there is a way round this :D You CAN do full throttle shift with a manual but you need a switch on the clutch pedal (already there for cruise) and something which brings in a secondary rev limit when the clutch is depressed, say at 4000rpm... Now there's a device out there which does this for you plus a lot lot more! Its called RACELOGIC TRACTION CONTROL - GPS are doing a group buy atm ;)

the auto doesnt "shift gears" at all really, all gears are engaged but brake bands are applied to hold different parts of the epicyclic gear train (how about that one tech fans ;) ) to get different ratios.

on a manual you are physically shifting a mechanical gear hub to engage each gear - far better approach :D
