After all the talk about Skyline rear lights, I decided to check out the options.

I was surprised that there seem to be a few configurations. I'm sure there's a Skyline expert out there who could shed a little light???

For starters they are 2 different skylines.

one is R33 and the other R34.

Its also possible that the R33 isnt a GTR

  Adz now that is funny mate :x: like the way you say EX...

There are so many variants on the Skylines.

R32

R33

R34

Then theres GTR`s, GTT`s, GTST`s, GTS`s . And a few 4 door models i think.

I could be wrong but i think the R32`s have the same lights throughout the range, as do the 33`s and 34`s.

Matt, this particular ex, well I could say a few things about her :P

The R33 in the picture is a GT-R. Unless you are looking at an aftermarket light installation, and excluding some of the rarer versions such as the "Skyline City Runner" the rear lights are the samer, by model

Correct. The Skyline goes right back to the 1950s (made by a company called Prince) but most people in the UK only consider rhe R32, R33 and R34. Although some R30s are on thier way ;)

As regards the models, there is really no difference as far as the lights are concerned.

The R32 has the smallest light surround and is probably better suited for a 300ZX (I could be wrong)

The R33 has almost identical size lights to th R32 but they are much more interesting in terms of the actual design for the lenses. The surround/housing is bigger

The R34 has different size lights i.e. one small one large. and will need a higher space at the rear so you may want to avoid this.

If you ant more information please let me know

John, you may be right about the diameter of the lights, but failed to point out that the smaller round lights don't include an indicator, this is the clear band below, so entirely unsuitable for fitting to a zed, unless you modify the round lights to include an indicator signal (but htis would mean replacing some of the red reflector with orange or clear - not too easy!)

well you will have to wait a bit to see it then. Shame really as it looks quite good

Yes, you're correct. I'm no expert on 300 rear light configurations so wasn't sure if there was something that could be done to accomodate these.

Hope these pictures help

Hi nigel - I'm no further with the Skyline lights - I'll try contacting BodyTorque again. However - I'm not too enthusiastic on the idea as I may change the Zed later on the in the year as I posted recently.

Geoff.

Looks great imo but a hell of a lot of work must have gone into this.

Would it be a good idea for someone from this forum to attend one of the GTROC pub/social meets and take a closer look? Hell! Why not all come along

These are the (quite common now) FIAT type rears as supplied by the Z centre, a bit too small in diameter for my taste, but not bad as a serious alternative to the Nissan stock versions
