I bought a normally aspirated 300 recently.

The roads have been pretty slippery so it seems plenty quick enough. But maybe one day I'll want more power.

I realise turboing it would cost what... £4K maybe?

But I reckon nitrous would be more like £1K.

Does anyone know if it's been done?

can the engine and gearbox handle the extra power ok?

Cheers folk

ROFL

On the subject of HICAS: IMHO yes it does have a detrimental effect on the handling and that's why mine's been disabled. IMO the most fun I get out of my car is when I'm chucking it round the twisties, I'm not into building a straight-line monster, and with the HICAS on, the back-end is frankly atrocious, way to light to the point that it becomes almost unerving when you're going into a corner at speed. With it disabled the car feels much more under control (cheers John if you're reading this! ;)). Just my 2p's worth *ducks for cover* :)

I'm on my second TT, but I'm starting to think I might prefer an NA!

What do you boys make of that?

Re HICAS... it does make the back end a little less predictable. You never quite know what yer slip angle is. (Most people on here that have got rid have been mainly driving other high power FR cars previously. ) And all that extra tracking gear is MASS, which isn't good for standing quarters.

If you don't get near the rev limiter before every upshift, you're not going for it. That's true in an NA AND a TT. And if you're not going for it, why have a TT?

By the way how complicated is it to put an NA diff in a TT?

most of the people not happy with HICAS seem to be import owners with speedo convertors which i believe screws HICAS up.

cant say as i find it a problem??

Mercedes have their air mass sensor after the supercharger & it seems to run fine!!

but i shall phone them & tell them that they are wrong straight away!! :D

No, because their ECUs are designed to work on data provided after the air has been charged not before. I guess you could do a Nissan that way but it would involve more work

so how does it work out the air mass off boost then ;)

Should bolt straight on, and will help your acceleration no end.

Did i mention that until a TT spools up an NA is faster of the line?

F*ck being your mate Paul.lol

Who told you that Jock, bring your tarten spaceship to Billing and I will show you:D;) :hyper:

Oh how bigs the line? 1ft or 3ft?;)

Tell you what mate, lets make it fair, you strip your car down to the £500 my car cost me, and I will race one of your new pistons over the standing 1/4.lol

Absolutely, and crisper all round I'd imagine. Who wants to lend me their NA for some research?

I am seriously thinking of the diff conversion... I'm never gonna need 186 mph so I'd rather have the torque.

Dont mean to get all antagonistic on this, but what a load of Toss. Bottom line is the 300zx NA is a fast car. It isnt as fast as a TT, granted, but it is easier to work on and maintain, I have found it cheaper to insure, there is less systems to go wrong and it is my belief that you can use more of the power of an NA more of the time. I support these beliefs by the fact that I have driven and worked on both.

Dont presume that everyone who buys an NA secretly wants a TT, If I wanted a TT, I would buy one. I chose to buy an NA and there isnt a car on this forum I would swap it for

Craig, my suggestion to you, is learn to drive the NA (eg, thrash it. Seriously, all the power is high up the revs, much the same as a bike) and as your mate in his TT goes past muse quietly on the fact that you havent got turbos to go pop, you havent got hycas to mess up your handling, you dont need to buy blow off valves, AFR, big intercoolers, boost controllers etc. Yet you still have a fast, beautiful car :) And NA's with an open pipe sound so much better than a TT

Jock, you are now my hero mate.

I thought I did have HICAS...... Hmmmmm

I'll say 1 thing, at least there's a lot less to go wrong on the NA 300z and it must be a lot easier to work on. I've heard that changing a turbo on the TT zed is an engine out job  & probably something that I'll be doing shortly after I fit that boost controller :D

LOL!! theres even less to go wrong with a Micra, & i hear that pushbikes are even easier to work on & have extremely low maintenance costs!! :D

turbo wannabees. your all in denial :D

someone put up that video again that will shut em up

im havin this dream. im in a turbo zee and these guys are after me in there na's BUT THEY CANT CATCH ME so they get a nitros kit BUT THEY CANT CATCH ME so they get a nitros kit and a super charger BUT THEY CANT CATCH ME so they get a nitros kit a super charger a john dixon to tune there ecu and a set of f1s but just as they are about to catch me THE TWIN TURBOS KICK IN....................

..............and then you wake up and you've wet your pants.

This is the same argument as people who tune the car to f*ck. Who cares if you do a quarter mile in 14 or 13 seconds? 0-60 in 5.5 or 7?

the people that tune thier car to f*ck i presume?!

...Ah, but they're sad, I'm not :D

But it is true they would get down the shops three seconds before me if we lived next door and the shops were quarter of a mile straight down the road and we lived somewhere with no children or old grannies and they raised the national speed limit in built up areas to 100mph.
