After a couple of miles driving, i get an awful squeak from the front nearside hub, had the wheel bearing replaced a couple of weeks ago, and it stopped doing it for all of about 500 miles, now its back and louder than ever.

It only does it at speeds upto 20 mph, and only after a few miles of driving , so i guess its something caused by heat, I know its nothing to do with the brakes as ive had the discs and callipers off and spun the wheel and it still does it.

Can something else on the hubb be knackered causing it to eat wheel bearings at an alarming rate? Its going to the menders on thursday, any ideas of what i should get them to look at?

bloody noise is baking my noodle, very embarassing!!!

It cant be the wheel bearing again surely? Is there any play when u jack it up?

Somethings obviously dry or worn, and it happens when spinning the wheel only, u dont even have to bounce it?

No side to side play, but of you try to turn the wheel(as in roll it formard or back) with the wheels on the ground you can feel a bit of play that way.

Very odd.

Well that was all very odd, guy took it apart, all fine, no play in the wheel or wheel bearing, everything tight, when he put it back together no noise as yet.....hmm strange. Then again have got a louder exhaust to drown the sound out now though!!

If the noise comes back then try your brakes/calipers, it is most likely just a build up of brake dust or even just a wee stone stuck in the brakes. Do Z's have anti-squeal shims? If so then check that they've actually been fitted and fitted properly.

I had exactly this last summer in my 214, got the brakes cleaned and checked and the noise disappeared, came back a couple of months later and got progressively worse, cleaned/checked the brakes again and no more noise.

Another solution to this problem that seems popular is to put some copper grease on the back of the pad before its fitted. But personally I wouldn't trust copper grease anywhere near my brakes...
