Needing a new exhaust not decided what to go for , however removed the back boxes and decided to start the car , how loud is this gonna be! Answer, not very, in fact just a rather nice note sure it's not over the legal limit(whatever that is?). Anyway got me thinking why not just pipe straight back without boxes, anyone else done this or see any problems?

Might be okay on tickover, but a bit of right foot might help in the volume stakes :D :D

Simon :)

i gutted the backboxes on ours cos the baffles were collapsing and obstructing the flow. Believe me at high rpm it gets LOUD. Sounds brilliant though.

O.K. That's the mid section off with the resonator, it's significantly louder but not not massively loud. Anyone know what the legal limits are re loudness.

Yeah, I knew the turbo's had a silencing effect but didn't realise how much, was a bit reluctant to remove the exhaust cos i thought the noise would be huge and annoy the neighbours if I wanted to move the car but it just sounds, well, nice and loud.

I have a kakimoto system and they are too loud, really gets to you if you drive along the motorway for any distance, I would prefer a nice tone to the exhaust than out and out loudness but we all have different tastes.

Yes, I've been here too, I had a decatted straight through system with no mid silencers and tiny little back boxes. Eveyone who knows me agreed it was the loudest car in the world - even blew away all opposition at a Jap meet exhaust note competition, but it realy did cabbage my head on the motorway after just a few hundred yards (great going through a tunnel with the targas off though!!!)

I went to TubeTorque in Macclesfield for a couple of new back boxes (handmade to measure for each car - takes all morning!) and the effect was much better. Same Sporty note and low rumble (lower if anything), but much better on cruising. Have to say though - I'm going back to have the silencers re-fitted next time round - still too loud.

The trouble is, if u like it loud it gives plod another excuse to stop you.

Mines decatted with a huge rear box each side. They went a bit ripe so me and my mechanic remade them with the mig or stig? lol but they dont have much stuffing in now so quite barky. Real pig getting to the hangers/brackets behind the bumper too.

Sounds great pulling at about 2700rpm , sort of sweet rumbley warble .

mine are straight through from the turbo the rear silencer is about 12" by 5"on 4" pipes and are loud, anyone at the Se rolling road will vouch for the sound

kinda got me thinking on that idea what were you gonna put on the end ov the pipe (ie) tips does the back box split at the rear or is it fixed solid and splits down the middle ov the car.

Not really wanting loud but don't mind a bit louder than stock, so consdering retaining the centre box/resonator(it appears that this section does most of the silencing) and making up two 2.5" pipes to outlet. Won't really need anything on the tips initially but sure there are shiny bits available that could be attached. The standard system is split all the way through, only joined at the centre box with two inlets and two outlets.

cheers pete i was just wanting little bit more noise but dont no which will best taking back boxes off or removing boxes further under the car unsure actually what type ov exhaust i have dont no if its perf or not some one had a look at it and said it was bigger than stock poss a turbo one. think its a 3" pipe instead ov 2.5".

If you've got a NA! Bear in mind what Iv'e said before relates to the TT, the turbos make a big reduction in exhaust noise!

mines na if i took the boxes out under the car and made them strait thru and left the rear as it is would this up the volume a little bit.
